Anyone been to Sinatra in Encore? How is it?

Dom,

I haven't been, but I've heard multiple times that it's amazing and the epitome of style and perfection down to every last detail, just a truly great Las Vegas restaurant.

*heard this from Steve wynn in many Vegas taxicabs; don't know anyone who has actually been there.

Sinatra has a good bar IIRC

dom I went there about three years ago. You get hit with the wynn tax and its probably overpriced, but everything was really solid and what you want when hitting a high end red sauce italian place. We went during truffle season and the truffle pasta appetizer was really amazing that I still remember it.

Wife and I have been there several times. As another poster noted, you're paying the Wynn tax, but service is great, food very good to better than that. Had a rigatoni with bolognese that was as good as any I've had, and wife loves the veal. Osso buco very good. Good wine list. There is a SMALL outside dining area that we haven't used (for some reason I make it rain when I'm there) but looks nice.

I can't think of an obviously better Italian spot in LV, but you're paying for it.

Hi Everyone,

The wife and I are going to be in town from Dec. 16-19th, and we're looking to do a pre-theater prix fixe dinner one night (or maybe twice). We're not big eaters, so full tastings are usally overwhelming. For background, Carnevino on Saturday the 17th will take care of steak, and we might give Raku a whirl for a casual dinner at some point as well.

Anyway, we're probably leaning Spanish, French, or Japanese, but are fairly open. Does anybody have any thoughts on the following pre-theater menus? Additional recommendations?
- LeCirque
- L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon
- Hakkasan
- Jaleo: Have ate at a number of Andres' restaurants, so this isn't necessarily at the top of the list unless people really love it.
- Picasso: Ate here last time and loved it.

Also, any great thoughts on sleeper bar menus for lunch and/or dinner? Julian Serrano bar menu for lunch seems recommended from what I've seen here.

Thanks!

May sound obvious but I've messed this up before. I highly recommend you do your pre theater meal in the same hotel as your show. Or at least one like... across the street. Did a B prix fixe and then had to get to MGM for Ka. Didn't make it.

Has anyone been to Sushi Hiroyoshi? Gets very good reviews on Yelp, but only 98 reviews total. Seems to be not quite as good as Kabuto but is a bit less expensive. We have a car, so distance isn't a problem.

Or, should we just go to Kabuto?

Always choose Kabuto.

Hiroyoshi is probably about the same as kabuto in terms of price to quality, possibly slightly better. Hiroyoshi a bit more casual and much easier to get into on short notice also. Kabuto clearly the choice if cost isn't an issue.

Thanks! Show ideas are still up in the air, but we'll certainly keep this in mind as it would be a huge drag to miss one because of being late.

You are aware that there is a mute button in cabs, right?

Mute button is the best tip you can give a cab driver.

Or if the driver sucks, I'm sure the volume can go up too.

Also those new annoying talking gas pumps have mute buttons. Essential.

Need a recommendation for the first night of my upcoming trip to Vegas. I usually stay at the Aria but I have used up all my comps and will be staying at Excalibur because it was super cheap lol. I'm down to go anywhere on the strip, though, doesn't have to be near my hotel.

I have a bunch of buffet comps and will definitely do Shakeshack and 800 degree's pizza but I wanted to eat something somewhat healthy the first night. I was thinking Blue Ribbon at the Cosmo but not sure.

Looking for quality somewhat healthy food with good portions and value! I don't want to start eating bad until later in my trip

Lots of diametrically opposed words there!!

'Strip' and 'good value' don't make good bedfellows. Neither do 'healthy food' and 'good portions'

Unless there are some crazy-good suggestions that I hadn't thought about that balance all of that perfectly, something has to give. Given that you will be shovelling in buffets later, I'm going to suggest that you put more emphasis on strip and healthy!

Lots of salads in LV are ridiculously unhealthy. However, an obvious choice is to go for a salad app and a steak at any steakhouse, just watch what goes into the salad.

You can pick and choose off menu from sushi. I have no clue about sushi, pretty sure you will be advised by others to go to Kabuto (amongst others) rather than Blue Ribbon.

You can pick and choose reasonably from tapas menus, Jaleo and Serrano are the obvious 2 to go for. Unless you over-order, it isn't going to be a ton of food.

One of my regular haunts is Fiamma (MGM) which I haven't heard much mention of on here, so possibly I'll get shot down for suggesting it, but they have a full service bar. I had the pear and blue cheese salad and the short rib raviolini, neither dish was overwhelming and I didn't need to lie down for 8 hours afterwards. Being an Italian menu, you could definitely easily order a carb overdose if you aren't careful.

I haven't been to the strip in probably 5 years but i went last month. being that i'm almost 40 years old, i have years of memories of going there in my 20s and early 30s. also going as a kid iwth my parents from LA.

I feel like hte strip has lost a lot of its personality. IT's so clean, corporate, and chain-y now. I feel like every 20 yards is a gourmet burger place and a starbucks. kinda miss the older seedy vegas with dudes handing out those cards and cheap buffets. Way too many security guards and police walking around.

I really liked Fremont st. that was fun, can't believe I've never been.

Of all the overpriced sushi places on the strip, Blue Ribbon might be the worst value.

North Vegas and Fremont/Old town still have that vibe your referring to.

Convergence of LV Strip and NY Times Square is nearly complete. It is very disappointing.

Yeah, strip sucks now. No good gambling, nothing is good value and even just overall quality of restaurants has gone down SO MUCH in just the past 5 years. Fremont and off-strip are getting so much more appealing.

Not entirely true, for gambling the best poker games are all across the strip. Unfortunately, if you like tournaments, the rake is ridiculous but the fields are softer than anywhere else in the world IMO.

As for pit gambling, yes it is brutal ! There are still a few half decent plays here and there, though.

I like spending some time on Fremont but it does not compare at all to the lavish offerings of the strip
