Re: Las Vegas Fine Dining Thread
The Steakhouse at Circus Circus was kind of disappointing. Ordered the Porterhouse med-rare and the NY Strip side came out closer to med/med-well. Still a solid steak at much less than most of the other places on the strip, but I don't think it deserves being called "Best Steakhouse on the Strip" (though I haven't been to other steakhouses on the strip, I'd imagine there has to be places that are better).
Also Jaleo (at least the DC version) is better than China Poblano. With that being said, China Poblano is still pretty good.

Re: Las Vegas Fine Dining Thread
I attempted to eat at Stratta (Wynn Italian) tonight and after getting our drinks the waiter said something to the effect of "We're sorry but something's happened in the kitchen and we aren't going to be able to serve you cold or hot food at the moment."
He was emphatically sorry about the inconvenience and we didn't have to pay for drinks. He also said whatever "it" was happened an hour earlier and took 20 minutes to fix. We were essentially being given a vague timetable for (maybe) getting food and zero explanation why, and it was phrased in a way that it couldn't be clarified, and we couldn't really press the issue.
Since nothing regarding the oven being broken was mentioned, we figured it was a good idea to leave.
A fellow poster told me that it was likely a health inspection and that Stratta wasn't the only one lately to get hit (!)
So apparently health inspector people are cracking down, hooray!

I was recommending it for lunch, not dinner.
Here is an accurate review of the $20 lunch

Re: Las Vegas Fine Dining Thread
I agree that China Poblano has some dishes that are just meh, but Jaleo has a much higher ratio of them. FWIW, I've eaten at Jaleo in DC and Vegas, and think the Vegas one is better than DC, but that China Poblano is much better than either.
Dishes at CP I would recommend:
Any of the Sui Mai,
Dan Dan Mian
Chicken Ji Song

Bartalotta, Picasso, and Raku are all top 10 restaurants in Vegas.
So are Guy Savoy, Lotus of Siam, and Latelliar (although probably not worth going to if you're already going to JR).

The Big Eye Tuna pizza was the best thing I had in my previous trip.
I'm sure there are places that have better food for a better price compared to Yellowtail. Anyone care to share their opinion?

I've been to CP but not Jaleo, but given the strata that each (supposedly) sits in I've got to think that if CP is much better than Jaleo then someone ****ed up? It's like saying a Toyota's better than a Lexus.

Re: Las Vegas Fine Dining Thread
I don't see it that way. Seating is slightly more casual, but don't let it fool you. CP is expensive. Whether it takes more than that for you to think it's fine dining is up to you. Totally different restaurants with CP being a totally new concept. So I wouldn't rate them against each other.
I don't think much of the chicken ji song. I agree the Sui Mai is great and they have great ceviches too.
Maybe a third of the tacos are amazing. The rest are good not great. But c'mon with that at 5.50 to 10 bucks a pop for a very small one. 20 veg fried rice is very good. Get it with chicken for only 25 dollars. Mongolian lettuce beef is bland. They have this new chicken and pork rind dish that I like a lot but don't know the name.
I've had most of the noodle soups but can't think of any of their names right now. I think they fall in line pretty close to what you get at good Chinese restaurant. They don't stand out at all. If you haven't eaten viet, Chinese, and Korean soups for a lot of your life I bet you'll like them a lot more.

Re: Las Vegas Fine Dining Thread
We just got back from Craftsteak here at FW and The manager, Tom, went to CP with Tom Colicchio last year. They ate with Jose Andres. He told us how Jose explained the thought process behind all of the dishes
Said it was a phenomenal, and extremely large, meal

I've eaten at both and the statement holds true...give Komex a shot and report back. Bulgogi tacos and kimchi fried rice w/ bulgogi are your best bets. CP is excellent, just overpriced IMO.

Re: Las Vegas Fine Dining Thread
The american wagyu ribeye from Cut was probably the best steak I've ever had while also being the most expensive. But it felt like the waiter was talking down to us (group of 8, everyone in 20s) the whole meal, so it took away from the great steak IMO.
