Anyone frequent any of the food trucks in Vegas? My dad saw something on TV and wants to check them out, some of the yelp ratings seem very good. How do people eat at these things? Do they provide a place to sit and eat near the truck?

I rarely eat at the poker table but on a recent visit to the Venetian i only had a few hours to play and we were trying to hold a shorthanded PLO game together around 3 in the morning so I decided to give the poker room food a try. We had come through town on the way to Hawaii a week before and the kid sitting next to me ordered and amazing looking smelling Garlic Shrimp Pasta dish from the Grand Lux. I'm not sure if I was really hungry or had been thinking about it for a week but the minute someone mentioned food it jogged my memory and I ordered it.

I'm sure this has been reviewed and mentioned before but I'm still on Island time and can't sleep so I figured I would offer a suggestion from a tourist.

Cheers and Merry Christmas,

Grand Lux is operated by cheesecake factory i believe I've been told. I've enjoyed the two our three meals I've had there - they made some Asian chicken "nachos" with won ton chips and Thai peanut sauce that my buddy mentions every time Vegas comes up in any context. Tasty.

Fukuburger is an amazing truck to find if you are a hamburger lover. Bring your own seating if you expect to sit and dine. It's a truck. No seats or tables provided.

It's usually in or near a parking lot so I ate in my car.

I don't mind Fukuburger but I think it's incredibly overrated. It's japanese style burgers but nearly every single one of them has some sort of mayonnaise based sauce on it. Real japanese food doesn't use mayonnaise and it makes them all taste really similar.

I like Slidin Thru more, if they're still around. Really inventive flavors and they're all different as night and day.

QUESTION!!!

How is this pronounced? Is it... "Fu-ck-You-Burger?"

Just like the baseball player Fukudome (ie. Fu-ck You Do Me)

mayo and soy sauce with a little ginger mixed in is awesome. but besides this sauce, I've not really seen or experienced much in the way of Mayo unless it's from some fusion restaurant.

not sure if you noticed or not, but Monta has a second location just south of eastern at 215 now, in the Gold's gym shopping center, next to Japanese Market. More seating, and easier parking.

Funny. Just ate there for the first time today. They have a ton of extra appetizers that were pretty good too.

Ate here yesterday. Hawaiian Chipotle basically. I thought it was excellent! If I lived closer, I'd eat there regularly, probably go once in a while though.

decided I should no longer just lurk, and try to contribute around here-
I've had a place in Vegas for years, and lived full time for a couple-been out of town working on other things for a few years now-but have perused this discussion briefly and have wondered why no love for Pop's Cheesesteaks?

http://www.popscheesesteaks.com/

true authentic cheesesteak with Amarosos bread and open 24 hours..

Going to have to try Rollin Smoke, when I was in town full time, it was devoid of any good Q-Doc T is right-KC is the place for BBQ-

Tried this on Saturday night, thanks for the recommendation. Enjoyed it, and the owner & staff were really, really friendly. That could be because, at like 7 pm, I think we were the only two people in the restaurant when we walked in, and maybe one other couple joined while we ate there. As soon as we came in the guy working the counter gave a friendly greeting, asked if it was our first time there, and when we said yes offered a sample of a couple of the kinds of protein.

When SoCal says it is "basically Hawaiian Chipotle," he means it is exactly the Chipotle set up with some Hawaiian flavors/seasonings. I mean, to the point I would be worried about Chipotle suing for some kind of blatant copying of their model. You choose a burrito, bowl or tacos (soft flour or crunchy corn), and if you get soft tortillas they warm them up in the little press. You choose Steak, Chicken, Shredded Pork or Fried Fish, then add lettuce, sour cream, guac (extra), grilled veggies (extra), 3 kinds of salsas, jalapenos, cilantro, and/or cheese. The proteins are prepared with Hawaiian techniques or flavorings - the pork is Kahlua Pig, and the chicken is Huli Huli (spl?) Chicken. The salsas are also tropical - there's a Mango based one that is mild, another with corn & jalapeno I think, and the hot one is tomato and maui onion based. Also, the rice is either regular or with seaweed in it - I got the seaweed rice and you could absolutely taste it in there.

Wife got pork and chicken tacos, I got a steak & chicken burrito. I thought both proteins were tasty, more seasoned than the Chipotle version. Salsas were good too - I added all three to the burrito which blended the flavors a little too much. Wife just got the mango one and grilled veggies on the tacos, was very good, particularly the pork.

I did also get chips & guac on the side - kind of bland guac I thought, needed more salt or lime juice or something. Wouldn't get again, particularly when it's 4.50 to add it (more than 50% the cost of a burrito).

They also had some homemade hot sauces out where the Tabasco would be at Chipotle. Four levels of heat, I tried the one pepper which was I think Pinneable and Jalepeno - was way too sweet, no heat. The other I had was the three pepper which was great - guava and habanero. Was very sweet and tasty, but very spicy as well. I would probably have bought a bottle if they sold them, really liked it. They had a four pepper which was coconut based, but can't imagine liking anything spicier than the guava/hab one i tried, was at my threshold.

Lastly, they sell a desert they call Coconut Bark - basically a Chocolate/Toffee/Maybe Caramel layered brittle with some coconut in it. Really, really excellent as long as you're ok with very, very sweet. I don't like cocount, but you really don't taste that flavor much if at all, just a little bit of the texture.

In all, really enjoyed it. Unfortunately it's a solid 20 minute drive from my place so I doubt I'll frequent too often. I would have been very worried about their survival given how dead it was at dinner time, but maybe they do good lunch business. They had a table placard up that said they have two other locations coming soon (I think one in the north and one in Green Valley), so they can't be doing too bad. Hope they do well, really seemed like the folks working there were nice and cared about giving good service.

jawhoo: Great writeup! I went on a weekday for lunch and it had 4-5 tables full of people. I noticed there was a drive thru, so that might cut down on some of the in store dining. I had a taco each of the steak/chicken/pork and liked all three. I think I liked the pork the best. I'm curious to try the fish tacos with some cabbage on it next time I go. Agreed about the coconut bark, it is legit.

MSchu: They are on roadrunner and deliver to my area(southern highlands), thought it was decent, but not great. Wouldn't be surprised if it's one of the types of foods that is much better eaten fresh and not delivered. Would probably make a pretty good drunk food as well.

Where to get a great burger. Not a designer specialty burger at these copycat $12 burger places. A greasy juicy cheesy burger cooked by a criminal on a flat grill for $7.

Fatburger is awful.

Best burger I've had in Vegas is at Rollin' Smoke, but it's not a simple burger like Clark is asking for.
