Went to Gordon Ramsays Fish and Chips place at the Linq. These are not the best fish and chips you will ever have, but it definitely meets the goal of getting some easy (relatively cheap for the strip), fastish food. When I went the cashiers were struggling a little bit with the crowd (and the drunk level didnt help), but the fish had a really great crispiness to the outside. I thought the dipping sauces they made a big deal out of were very average, and the chips just a bit over average. All in all, I think it will be really successful, and gives us a nice option when you want some different casual food, but I wouldn't go out of your way for it (go to smashed pig for best fish and chips in Vegas imo)

But was it better than Long John Silver?

Halal Guys...meh. Just fast food gyros that are average at best. Not sure what the big deal is. Yanni's Greek Grill on LVB and Silverado Ranch is ten times better, if you want gyros.

yeah I was very unimpressed as well.
Rice dry
chicken dry
gyro was in too small of pieces, almost ground up when I got it
white sauce is just ranch dressing that tastes eggy, kinda nauseating really
hot sauce too hot to be of any use, destroys your tastebuds

lame

I am in Vegas right now and just went to Rollin Smoke yesterday based on the recommendations in this thread. I am not that knowledgeable in BBQ's but I enjoyed the food very much. Meat was soft and very nicely cooked. I wasn't that impressed with the sausage but the rest was very enjoyable. Thanks for the recommendation guys.

I didn't go to halal guys in Vegas but due to a recommendation from a friend, I did go in Orange County. I am originally from Turkey so i have had high quality doner (different than gyro) many times over there and it is quite expensive when very high quality meat is used. So I might be too opinionated but HG's meat was tasteless and disgusting imo. However it is served with good sauces... and for a reason. It does a great job of hiding the extremely low quality of meat.

FWIW, my brother visited us last week before going to Vegas and said Rollin Smoke was a level below the BBQ he got here in the Midwest.

Funny thing is that what you get as döner kebap in lots of sandwich shops in Turkey today, is something that turkish immigrants in Germany invented in the 1960s and later brought back to Turkey. Totally agree that lots of sauce usually is a pretty decent indicator for poor meat quality. Restaurants that use high quality meat and salad/veggies don't drench their sandwich in sauce.

Answer is two. I have a feeling it should be more like four in your opinion. Haha

I know that variations of doner started a lot earlier than 1960 especially Iskender Doner from Bursa. I am not sure about the rest though. That would be an interesting fact if durum doner was originated in Germany by immigrant Turks.

I haven't been to Midwest so I wouldn't take my word for the quality of BBQ joints. All I can say is I enjoyed it.

Today we'll try Yardbird in Venetian after my afternoon Poker session at Wynn/Encore.

I've never had good BBQ from a place that had a deep fryer. Also, there isn't cheap access to good smoking woods in the LV area. Don't go to LV to eat BBQ.

This is also true of American BBQ. The more the sauce, the worse the meat.

Mesquite wood is easily found all around Las Vegas, for example try your local park or vacant lot.

Dunno about the Vegas desert, but here in the AZ desert you can hardly swing a dead cat without hitting a mesquite tree.

FYI mesquite isn't a great, long cook, smoking wood.

There do exist smoking-wood suppliers here in Las Vegas. Are you trying to tell me the price of these woods add so much to the cost of local BBQ that one should travel elsewhere??

A short walk behind the MGM on Trop is BJ's. Decent bar food, scantily clad bartenders and hostesses. Give them a call and ask about the sound.
