what's the deal with happy hour? i can see it's 1030pm - 130am and there are food and drink specials, but is it worth going to that or better to just go at a normal time and getting omakase?

In fine dining I believe I shared my disappointment w sen's omakase. At a minimum you should tell them you've been there a dozen times and want something really special that will blow you away.

I haven't been back to test this, but a good number of my friends absolutely rave about the place, and I'm 0/1.

Sushi by definition is uncooked, innit?

Nah apparently sushi means "with rice" or some ****. Lots of stuff are sushi with no raw fish: unagi, tamago, California roll.

Sushi is the the appetizer with rice. Sashimi is sliced raw fish, which is what a lot of people call sushi.

'Raw' or 'uncooked' is sometimes said as 'nama', so if you want some raw egg to dip in, you can ask for 'tamago nama.'

If we nitpick, sashimi isn't limited to raw fish, but is also made from other seafood, (red) meat or even vegetarian things like yuba. The japanese cuisine unfortunately also uses whale and dolphin meat for sashimi.

I've had Halal Guys for the 4th time in 3 days. Confirmed legit & the hot sauce is for real.

This always happens to me with Halal Guys

I'll get in a groove not realizing how often I'm eating it, then back off for a few weeks, sometimes months, rinse and repeat

True dat. I was merely being inclusive and welcoming by allowing all organic material into the fish family.

My favorite as a kid was tako, and it was an easy grab because I could make out tiny pieces of suction cups on the edges...

Rollin smoke isn't good value anymore. Prices like 30% higher than 3 years ago or so. Still good.
