Checked out Standard and Pour in Henderson for the first time when my sister was in town. We got there rather late on a Friday night and they were out of a few dishes after a busy night which was totally understandable. The cocktails were quite good, including this bourbon fizz that was definitely the highlight for me. We did our best to sample a number of things on the menu. The star was definitely the shrimp curry appetizer. The cheeseburger and seafood linguine were both good but not great and I felt the beef tartare was very average although that is a dish I am pretty picky about and order it on most menus. I know that the chef hear was part of the Carson's Kitchen team so I had extremely high expectations, and while it is no where near as good as that restaurant, it really is a nice step up from most restaurants in Henderson. Will definitely go back at some point to try out more of the menu, but I guess I wont be in a complete rush. Was also sort of hoping that it would have a bar scene that was more crowded on a friday night but we were the last people in the restaurant/bar at 10:30.

Anyone else have any good recommendations for a place in Henderson that has really good food with a good bar scene for a single? It sort of stinks that when I want a good meal and some cocktails I normally either have to go downtown, spring mountain, the strip, or even Summerlin when I am on that side of town, but have very few options in the Henderson/Green Valley area.

Echo and Rig for steaks. Kabuki or Sen of Japan for Japanese. Chada Thai is probably 15 min away and 100% worth whatever the uber costs.

You can just go to the steakhouse at Red Rock.

But you did just ask about expense account meals in the casual dining thread, so...Yard House?

Going to Sen tonight. Thanks for that rec wj94.

Sounds like they gave you enough time to get hungry enough to hammer down a massive plate of delicious nachos.

They have two different nachos on the menu. Texas style (weak) and BAR Nachos which are anything but weak. I imagine those are the ones you had.

Wait what just happened. I was commenting that if you're looking for expense account $$$$$ meals you're in the wrong thread.

An Oldie but Goodie...

Had Mesa Grill the other day for the first time in literally probably close to like 10 years, Bobbys still got it. ( I am aware he probably hasn't stepped foot in the restaurant/kitchen either in probably 10 years as well)

I mean it was only like 70 bucks for 2 of us, sorry i just auto assume for something to be considered fine dining it has to be expensive as well. I guess i would put it in the middle of casual and fine dining, food was excellent though whatever you want to call it.

It's Caesars, so it's casual dining at fine dining prices.

We checked out Border Grill for brunch on Sunday, really turned out to be a huge hit. The whole brunch menu is all you can eat tapas, so while there might be a clunker or two (eggs benedict was really lousy), there were so many things to try that were all winners. On top of that, really enjoyed the atmosphere and the service was absolutely excellent. Whenever I am on the strip, Bouchon is always the go to Brunch spot, and while that is still certainly the best strictly for food, Border Grill tops it if you want the Vegas vibe with good food.

What are some decent, reasonable places for quick bite that are near Binions & Nugget?
Anything better than Subway or McDs for a quick meal (able to walk there & back and eat during the brief time allotted for lunch breaks by Binions & GN)?

It sounds like there's some good restaurants south of FSE. I like most types of food: Asian, Indian, Mexican, seafood, soup, salad, falafel, sandwich, sushi, veggie, etc. I don't want burgers or hot dogs... and would prefer to stay away from fries and Italian as well.

Most of the places I like downtown are either closed (Eat) or are going to be hard to get in/out (Therapy, Le Thai, Carson Street Kitchen,Pizza Rock) of during a Nugget or Binion's tournament dinner break. I've done Red Sushi in the Nugget (right across from the Grand Ballroom) during dinner breaks. Since I usually play the mixed games event that starts earlier, this dinner break usually falls during Red Sushi's happy hour and you can get deals on basic apps like edamame, spicy tuna, chicken karaage, pork belly). It's not spectacular and I wouldn't make a special trip there, but it's certainly fine for the confines of a poker tournament dinner break.

Something I've done in events at the Rio, and you could use the same trick downtown, works if you have a friend(s) that aren't playing the tournament or have busted. They get a table somewhere good and order food, and you show up and have time to eat something good.

That's what I figured, but thought I'd ask anyway.

Thanks, that sounds like a good idea, as I also play non-NLH events!
