I second EAT , the truffle sandwich is sick good , so is their side of bacon, def rec that place.

If your food range is somewhat wide , the oxtail soup at the California is amazingly good as oxtails soups go. They only serve it from 11pm on ,so its a late night thing.

The 777 diner at main st street station has some real good happy hour bar foods ,

MTO cafe , by the greyhound station has very very fresh tasting breakfast food.

Not exactly casual dining , but also not super fine dining , look into Hugo's cellar and binions steakhouse.

I haven't been for a long time to Binions steakhouse, but by all accounts, this one has gone downhill beyond repair, would like to hear views from anyone that has been in the last year.

Hugos has gone downhill too, (I'm comparing to the WSOP-Binions days) but still reasonable. The steaks aren't as good as the best steaks you can get in town by a noticeable margin. However, the whole dining experience is still pretty good, especially for the "dinner for 2" market, and is reasonably priced with everything all in, rather than a la carte. Wine list is very solid and very fairly marked up.

Seems like the default steak to go to now downtown is V&A's with Andiamos in the D as an alternative.

But that's a price point above where most on here seem to view casual dining, even though eating at the bar casually is very do-able.

that's why I said to "look" into them, as i also havent been there the past couple years (hugo's i have and it was good). i remember when the burger at binions was above avg, but that went downhill as well. you are probably right though.

I almost hate to admit it, but Oscar's is really, really good. Haven't tried any other steak house in downtown so I can't say what's better/worse.

Late night options in the MGM area? I say "late" it'll likely be around 11 or 11:30 or something. Literally any sort of food other than Indian is fine (I'm British and the Indian food in the US generally offends me).

some downtown info:

If your crew is looking for a buffet-Main St Station is probably best downtown(more of an old school experience-definetley not Bacchanal or the Wynn-but with a players card its a couple of bucks off so I think it tops out at $20)

Dupars at the Golden Gate serves decent breakfast for pretty cheap.

I agree with Simon about Binions Steakhouse. The best downtown steakhouse imo is Vic & Anthony's in the Nugget-and have heard some good things about Oscars but have never been.

Simon also hit it on the head with Hugo's Cellar- (if anyone in your group likes martinis the pour here is very generous). But still a decent meal, and I have always had good service

Uber to Chada.

Actually struggling to think of something worthwhile in MGM, so would be interested to hear what gets suggested.

While Americans will probably scowl when I suggest a stroll to PH and P.F. Changs, in Brit defense, the chain doesn't exist over here so it doesn't count as a chain and is reasonable price/quality. Closes around 12 midweek maybe later weekends. Or if you miss last order, or want cheaper, console yourself with Pin-up pizza there or Planet Dailies, which I think is 24hr.

If on MGMGrand property, the foodcourt is 24hr, but with some outlets closed. Wasn't much on offer when I looked in there to tempt me anyway.

I have quite a soft spot for Fiamma across from the food court, but you'll need to decide you are hungry before 11...

Is Chada better than Lotus of Siam?

**edit** it is open late enough, this is promising.

Looking for a decent place on or next to the strip to get a decent steak without spending a ton of money. Also looking for a spot where we would be comfortable being casually dressed. We've been to Mon Ami Gabi at Paris and enjoyed it - would prefer to dine at a spot we haven't been to yet.

Any recommendations for a suitable restaurant on/near the strip.

What is a "ton of money"? How do you define casually dressed (since you can eat just about anywhere while casually dressed, but definitions of what that means will differ)?

Casually dressed would be something like a golf shirt and a pair of dockers in the warm weather. Not a ton of money would be an entree in the 25-39 range.

There's maybe 3 to 5 places in Vegas where that kind of dress might be an issue. Everywhere else, that's perfectly fine. A couple years back the couple next to us at Cut was already dressed for EDC..

There's an outback steakhouse at casino royale that fits your price range. For $50-60 the Circus Circus steakhouse includes soup/salad and side with your steak.

I don't think you're going to find a good steak on the strip for that price. Like Madlex said you can go to Outback, but that would be pretty sad.

Sorry, just saw this. Here's the dinner menu.

We started off with three specialty drinks, because we couldn't decide on only two:

Blackberry Bliss - Greygoose, blackberry shrub, lime, mint, ginger beer.
Red Rock Sunset - absolut elyx vodka, aperol, orgeat, stiegl grapefruit, scrappy's grapefruit bitters.
Pimms 50 - belvedere vodka, house made Pimms #50, lemon, champagne, ginger beer.

All three were great. $12 each.

For starters, we had:

A Chickpea Chopped Salad - roasted peppers, provolone, olives, red wine mustard vinaigrette. $13.

Roasted Tomato Bisque - wood roasted grilled cheese, salami, cheese scrapes. $12.

Both were fantastic.

And we couldn't resist the Mac & Cheese, with Brie and Fontina. $14. Have a video of it bubbling cheesy goodness, but I don't know how to attach that here.

Our main course:

My GF had some kind of sea bass that was the special - I don't remember anything about it, other than it being very good. And it was the most expensive item of the night at $42.

I had the Calabrian Shrimp Pasta - spaghetti, Hawaiian shrimp, Calabrian chili, lemon. It was perfect! $24.

We got one side - which you can see in the above photo - the Roasted Butternut Squash, which was so good it was like dessert! Maple chili glaze, toasted marshmallows, pistachios. I can't recommend this enough. $9.

We obviously got too much food, so we didn't have an dessert! We cannot wait to go back. Heartstone was damn good. Maybe my new favorite casual dining in Las Vegas.

Yes, the Outback Steakhouse, on the 2nd floor of Casino Royale (on the Strip between Harrah's and Venetian), is under $100 for two, never crowded, come as you are.

Naysayers, please remember this is the Casual Dining thread.

Close your eyes and pretend you're spending $300 to eat the same steak in a restaurant bearing the name of a famous chef who's never there.

I personally enjoyed the steak special at Ellis Island. I think it was $10.99 after printing off the voucher and came with soup or salad and a couple sides. For what it was and what it cost, I thought it was great compared to the much higher prices most everywhere else.

The Ellis Island steak special is the first thing I ever ate in Vegas and I still haven't found a better deal.
