You can grind $65 tourneys at the stratosphere (best tourney in Vegas for under $100) and .50 - $1.00 NLH cash game at Bills Gambling Hall ($100 aces cracked from 10am - 2pm) if you start going to broke.
Nobody plans on losing when they play poker. But sick **** can happen. Always better to be safe! The 4-5k recommendation sounds good to me if you plan on playing hardcore (like 40+ hrs in a week). If OP just plans on playing a few hours a night then he probably doesn't need so much.
I plan on going in late June and I will probably bring around 8k. I will primarily play 1/3 at the Wynn because I hear you can buy-in for $500. From what I have read it plays really big and should be super soft during WSOP.
