i was always under the impression that the owner of private property can legally enter the room if there is suspicion of crime (this includes opening their drawers/dressers) however they
cannot legally search your personal belongings (backpacks, suitcases etc). The most they can do is notify the police and have them search your items (assuming probable cause, as in this case).
so the lesson should be: store your **** in your suitcase not the desk drawer.
