Job Market in Vegas?
Just wondering how vegas is for jobs.
My thread title, actually, might be a bit deceptive, as I don't mean mid - level jobs, I mean low - level, minimum wage jobs.
Just the basic run of the mill, Walmart, Target, Stop and Shop, McDonalds, Taco Bell. etc. etc.
Will I have any difficulty getting a basic job of this sort, in Vegas?

basic jobs... there are plenty because Vegas is still basically a service oriented city. those jobs are filled by folks that are just passing thru on there way to something else so turn over is high.

Well, I doubt I have anywhere near sufficient experience to be a cook, and I'm not nearly brawny and bulked up enough to be a security guard. So I'm thinking I'll probably pass on applying for those two
But glad to hear the other types of jobs I mentioned would be easy to get

Re: Job Market in Vegas?
I used to work in production for traveling bands and most of the higher level top tier security service company mangers and owners that I met were always of the mindset that their job was more about Psychology than intimidation....
I dont care if you are 130 lbs and have the physique of a toothpick, never talk yourself out of at least trying.

Re: Job Market in Vegas?
The minimum wage for the state is $8.25. Do most low - level jobs in Vegas start at that, or at a slightly higher amount?
Are most fast food joints there open 24/7? If so, do they usually add anything on for over night shifts?
You guys mentioned Casino jobs.
Still probably not looking at the security guard job. But what other kinds of jobs can you get easily in a Casino with little to no experience? Chip runner, or some such.
I'm not a hot chick, so I'm thinking probably not cocktail waitress
Any other entry level jobs in Casinos, that don't require experience?

Re: Job Market in Vegas?
Go be valet at wsop this year and get big tips from the ballers. There are ugly chicks being waitresses all the time. The more drinks men have, the better women look anyway There are custodial jobs I'm sure, and you prolly make more working later shifts at a fast food place. If I were you, I'd do some type of service oriented job where you got tips, either as your main income source or where people just generally left them...like a waitress at a restaurant of some sort. This is prolly the best lower level job people can get if you're people oriented. Don't have to be hot to serve at Hash House lol. The better the restaurant, the more you make too...so take that into consideration. If not, strippers are always being hired. Save up for some tits and you're good to go.
EDIT: By your last line, did you mean you aren't a chick, or just not a hot one? If you're a dude, you can still be a server at a restaurant.

It's a amusing that you waited to write that until after you had written the rest of your post, which mostly gives me suggestions for female oriented jobs (although I suppose I could be a stripper at a gay club )
Yeah, I'm a guy.
Your suggestion of a job that includes tips is a good one, although, tbh, I'm probably not people oriented enough, to get a ton of tips, so maybe not quite the right fit for me.
Something overnight at a fast food joint or some such, might be just fine. Maybe one that is in a casino or really near by.
I don't really care what I do. Just want something to help pay the bills, so that I can grind up a roll from LLSNL, without having to touch any of my roll or profits for outside expenses.

Re: Job Market in Vegas?
I'd recommend going to some temp agencies and getting your resume in their database. Lots of gaming companies in Las Vegas who hire warehouse personnel, admins, etc. I run a software test lab and I can't find any techs. It's a cush job with corporate hours (8-4:30, M-F) with salary from $9-$10/hr.
Check out Manpower and Ajilon agencies for starters

Re: Job Market in Vegas?
Not a bad idea.
But I was planning to grind poker on the side. And I'm thinking Vegas is the place I want to be doing that.

Re: Job Market in Vegas?
Only problem working late night shift at fast food is that it is prime hours for poker. I'd work fast food noon-7pm thne play poker til like 3am. Also, look into casinos. Work at a buffet line cleaning tables. Don't have to talk to people and get a share of the server's tips. Just do some slightly dirty work.
