some questions/thoughts,

how far away from strip are many of the restraurants that you recommend? are most fairly close to strip? or are they all over the city?

is there a whole business culture off-strip that caters mostly to strip visitors? sort of similar to the paragraph above it.

is vegas' business downtown in same location as casino "downtown" district?

a few things/thoughts i'd be interested in,

i like the strip but would prefer to stay elsewhere.... personally i like the strip for the shopping, sports books and the ambience. so i'd love to stay in henderson and whip down to the strip a couple of times in the week i stay in henderson.... any advice for people like me?

even though strip is expensive etc., i think there is giant group of people who never want to leave. so i think there's interest in underrated gems within the strip.

while getting us the best off-strip restaurants is great for your users, i would think that the strip has an almost limitless marketing budget to pay people like yourself monthly.

Jimmy, I assume omakase is like any tasting menu and each diner orders their own. Is it OK to ask for different dishes, or at least a few different dishes, especially if one person is more adventurous? Is it OK to try each other's food if the portions allow?

(Sorry to slightly derail, but we snowboarded in Lee Canyon last February -- it was 70 degrees in Vegas with people lying by the pool. Warm on the slopes, but still great fun. They also have a restaurant -- not one Jimmy needs to review! -- and a good bar )

That map is every place I've recommended so far. I think Vegas is great because everything is so close to everything else and travel is so easy with uber or renting a car for relatively cheap. I think that the $10 you spend to uber somewhere is worth the drastic lowered cost or rise in quality, so just suck it up and uber it to somewhere good in china town. Henderson has some great places too, so no reason to stray too far from wherever you're staying.

Location usually doesn't matter to me when deciding what to recommend unless the person specifically asks for it. Most of the places I visit are below summerlin parkway though because I never go further north than that typically.

I think there are some good strip restaurants and obviously the companies have big budgets to market them but I'm not going to recommend ****, overpriced restaurants over good local ones just because they're paying me. It's my website, I can have standards.

Some places have an omakase like a prix fixe where you can select which one you want (Kabuto has 3 choices for different prices) and others just start bringing out food (like Sen of Japan). You can ask for different stuff and share as much as you want, but whether they're willing to accommodate the preferences is up to them. They are usually very willing to please.

I'm in LA this week so likely going to do an article on how to order in a restaurant you've never been to before rather than a review. I've been wanting to write this for a while so I'm pretty excited to do it.

FWIW, my wife & I went to westside Mint last week. Beautiful facility, nice people. However, we weren't very impressed with the lunch buffet. Tandoori chicken seemed a bit off. No black dal. french fries in with the potato pokoras? no vegetable pokoras. Flavors were fine, but not really better than Mt. Everest in terms of overall quality IMO.

I'll be staying at the Cosmopolitan with my girlfriend in early February. Its her first visit. We are looking for some suggestions for must try items in any of their restaurants. She's a small eater so even if we could get into E that would probably not be worth the money. Jaleo seems like an obvious choice for us...is there any must try items there? Ive been wading through the fine and casual dining threads for ideas but it gets to be overwhelming. Thanks

I thought about doing a year end roundup of my favorite dishes/places but I think I'm going to wait until next year when the list of restaurants I've been to is considerably larger.

Plenty of good food in Boulder, it's become quite the foodie town (excluding most Asian food) in the past 5-10 years. I think you don't drink Jimmy? Unfortunate as there are many good microbreweries here.

Nonetheless, the Ameristar (home of 30/60 LHE) has decent enough food for a casino. If you're looking for an excuse to come out here then the HPT comes to Black Hawk in February, usually > $200K up top in the main ($1650 entry).

A plan for the future of the site (Once you have a lot more reviews) Might be an option to let people filter by budgets?

IE Dinners under $100 / Over $100?

That way, people who are a bit more budget conscious wont be put off due to the fear that a place is a lot more expensive?

Also, Get a review of Legasse stadium up. I was seriously impressed with this place and can't ever imagine going anywhere else to eat during sporting events

Fairly sure they were not showing UFC Pay per views last time I checked which is why I specially enjoyed Legasse. I felt I should have been paying ALOT more than I did for the night there. We left absolutely stuffed, were drinking all night, watched the full UFC card and had barely spent 100$ each...

Will go to Sporting life next time I'm over for soccer or whatever else they have on

I have nothing to compare it to, but Hiroyoshi was fantastic. We did an $85 and a $100 omakase and two flights of sake (very good and a great deal for $14). We also ordered a bottle of sake -- did I mention we like to drink?

The food was beautiful and amazing. (Sitting at the bar watching the chefs create is a must.) Even better, we were both full -- my husband is no lightweight, and I ate more than he did (although he drank a little more than I did). Unfortunately, no ankimo, but they had two types of uni and the saba was delicious. The best thing was probably the grilled black cod -- it absolutely melted in your mouth and the flavors were fabulous. The sushi assortment was fresh and also melty deliciousness. Would definitely do it again.

We were going to go to Chada (we've been there before) and order Jimmy's menu, but poker and snowboarding took up the rest of our time and we basically ate at the poker tables. For poker room food, I do love the Lemon Grass seafood drunken noodles and the lemon chicken piccata at Venetian was pretty good and enough for two meals.
