I tried searching first ...

My nephew will start at UNLV in a masters program this year. He grew up in CA and did his undergrad in Texas. He's never lived on his own before and doesn't want room mates. But he, his parents, and I, want to find an apartment for him that's not too far from UNLV, safe, and in a safe neighborhood. He'll have a car so it doesn't need to be within walking distance.

From what I've heard East of the strip is bad - even though UNLV is east of the strip. I've also heard North LV is bad.

I'm thinking the area around Tropicana & Jones. Or more specifically there are apartments on Reno around Lindell. Those seem nice and gated and it's a quiet neighborhood. But that's about all I know about Vegas off the strip.

As a college student it would be nice to be no more than 30 minutes from campus. Preferably 10 minutes or less.

Do you locals (or anyone who knows) have any suggestions as to where we should be looking?

Thanks a bunch!

most students live in other parts of town and drive to campus.

rebel place is good if you really want to live near campus

Re: I tried searching first ...

there are plenty of nice places and areas that are 12-15 minutes for unlv on the west side of the 15... even on the east side if you go south slightly, probably better traffic patterns also. certainly better than trop and jones

Anywhere along the 215 corridor(west and east of the 15) is within that 15 minute window for sure... the further west you go the nicer the area, but I might stay south of Durango for times sake. I can get to the MGM in about 11-12 minutes and I am off Buffalo and the 215

I go to unlv now and live at 215/town center. It's too far IMO but if you have class outside of peak times , to unlv from 7-10 and leaving from 3-6 it's not so bad. I would prefer to live closer tho. Trop/jones is no nicer than right by unlv. I would suggests Jones south of 215 or rainbow/215/Robindale area

Also The airport connector is a bitch from 7-9ish am so I would advise him to take classes later in the day if possible if going to live in southwest/215 area

I currently have a place on Eastern & warm springs, the website is here:
http://www.aviataapartments.com/

Full gym, 24hr pool and gated as well as security patrols

Its close to both Walmart grocery store as well as Albertsons, and is 10 minutes from campus, highly reccomended
