traffic to LV is always bad at least until you are a ways out of LA

It you go through that checkpoint, you're doing it wrong.

I've only seen it from the perspective of riding home from L.A. to Las Vegas. I was very glad to be on the other side of the road where ClarkNasty was gunning it over 100mph.

I know the alternative as well. It is one thing I'd prefer to keep to myself.

Damn... I've driven LA<->LV way too many times and I don't know any real shortcuts around that Barstow checkpoint area.

BTW, my advice on going LA->LV is do it Sat morning around 8ish... Road should basically be almost empty. (I hit 136mph once on a Sat morning)

What about leaving Vegas to la? Thinking about driving back on Monday afternoon but fear holiday traffic. Should I just wait until Tuesday?

Monday could easily take 9 hours. Seriously.

I'm getting anxiety just thinking about this topic.

The only good thing about a holiday weekend is that some of the people leave on Sunday and some leave on Monday. Still, expect suckiness on either day.

Re: how will traffic be from LA to LV this weekend?

I ended up doing AYCE sushi lunch at Goyemon today simply because the left-turn lane to get on I-15 heading south from Spring Mountain to get me home was backed up to Timbuktu. So I just kept going and ended up on Decatur and poof--there was Goyemon. (Two orders each of gyoza, salmon, tuna, yellow tail, halibut, super white tuna, and a couple rolls did the trick.)
