I have searched but didn't find anything quite what I wanted, so I apologize if this is redundant.

I'll be staying at NYNY from May 7-10, will be coming from EDT so when I get in on the 7th it may be dinnertime in Vegas but it will be 11PM for me, so I won't want a huge big meal that night. However, I will want 3 nice meals for the next three nights.

My wife has an Italian restaurant recommended to her, I don't recall the name, but that one is a given one of the nights.

My buddy swears by the Golden Steer, says it's where OJ had his last meal before going to jail, etc., so I plan on at least checking the place out, maybe for lunch instead of dinner if it's a hole.

That leaves one night where I would like to go to a nice steakhouse, prob Saturday night (my birthday). Looking to spend $100-$150 for the meal for two without drinks (I will drink elsewhere), don't care if it's in a casino or out of a casino. Ribeye is my favorite steak. Which particular steakhouses in that price range to you recommend?

if you 2 are just going to get 2 steaks, and app, and a shared side or something like that, and 0 drinks, you could probably do $150 at most of the high end places.

I don't think there's a huge difference in food quality at most of them (Prime, Delmonicos, Craftsteak, etc) but the atmosphere certainly varies. Craftsteak is the least formal with a big bar, Prime the most formal, Delmonico's....more classic nice steakhouse feeel.

for cheaper options Circus Circus steakhouse is good. I ate years ago at the place in NYNY it was overpriced and not great.

Thanks, Kneel! Appreciate it. How's the atmosphere at Circus Circus steakhouse? I have heard good things about the food but I know the casino is supposed to be a dump so I was worried about the restaurant.

Also, have you been to Del Frisco's? It might be a chain, not sure.....I would definitely prefer someplace less formal (like Craftsteak above) that I couldn't get in another city.

I have a personal preference for Craftsteak, but YMMV so take the time to go online and look up the menus of the "big boys" on the strip. Also, check chowhound.com, the Southwest board for lots of food opinions. Ribeye is a great "go to" cut, but for a surprise, Craftsteak offered a prime grade flat iron steak that was, as they say, "like butta." FWIW, I don't think the Kobe thing is worth the extra $ over an already expensive prime grade dry aged ribeye. Enjoy.

Reservations on a Sat night would be required, I would guess?

I liked Craftsteak a lot. Agree that the Kobe there was definitely not worth it.

I have an old post on here about steakhouses from a while back. Here's the link. Lots of great advice.

Yes, and you can do it online via the MGM website. It's hard to tell when LV will be busy and when it won't. I usually make my "big night out in LV" reservations before I get to LV. A reservation in hand is better than a long wait in the bar.

I doubt you could squeek by at most of the high end places for $150 unless you really cheapped it. Check the menus - most of them list 50-60 bucks for the steak, and that's just a hunk of meat on a plate. If you want a salad and vegetable you will probably go over the 150, and with no dessert.

You could probably do the Steak House in TI, but it's not really a bent pinky type of place, if that's what OP is looking for.

I haven't seen very many menus online with prices on them fwiw. I know to go to Morton's level steakhouse here in Indy, ordering two steaks, one side, one salad, and a dessert, no alcohol, costs me anywhere from $110-$160 with tip. That's how I got my range, was unsure of the "Vegas Markup". So far Craftsteak looks like a good fit....but I am keeping the options open.

I went to SW Steakhouse (at Wynn) and Del Frisco's on my last trip, and have been to many, many more steakhouses in town. SW has the best ribeye in Vegas. Del Frisco's is a better than average chain steakhouse; it's in the upper end of the Mortons/Ruths Chris/Capital Grille/Flemings pool. Forget about Prime and Delmonico, both are overrated. I'd go with SW. And you'll be fine on the price range, SW will be at the top of it but you should be OK.

Stack at the Mirage or Fix at the Bellagio. B/t the two I would pick Stack b/c it's a nicer room; bigger, higher celing, quieter, but still good vibe. Fix is smaller and louder and has dinner tables right off the casino floor. Food is great and you should be able to make you $150 limit easily enough

Ah, yes, making the wife go without salad or taters fits into my definition of "cheapping it" above.

FWIW just about every place has a menu with prices outside the restaurant.

I went to a lot of steak places in Vegas.

I have been to Craftsteak, I did the Kobe beef. I loved it, but to be honest, I can't really tell the difference. The steak was great though. Pretty high end place. For dessert I had 16 scoops of tiny ice cream that were all crazy flavours. Gingerbread, Fruit cake, Red Bull, etc. This was during X-mas.

I ate at the SW steak House. Steak, It was fantastic. The creamed corn was very good, for dessert we had these fritters with 3 different sauces. One of the best desserts I've ever had.

I ate at Delmonicos, the steak was good also. Had caesar salad made tableside. Side dishes were good and had a slice of Emeril's Banana Cream Pie.

I had Kobe Beef at Cut (Wolf Gang Puck's Steak Place). We split all the sauces. It was only like $2-3 per sauce so we had 12 sauces between 6 people and just dipped away. For dessert I had the Baked Alaska. It was good (no flambee though).

At all of these steak places, I always get a filet mignon. I prefer a bigger size of 10-14oz. My steak is always done medium or medium well sometimes.

When I think back, the steaks were great at all of the places. What really makes the difference is the side dishes and appetizers.

I had a few other steaks, but these were at french places or non-steakhouses.

I also ate at Fix. I think it was a smaller steak though (8oz). I had lobster mashed potatoes and adult fried mac and cheese. It was good, I wish the steak had been bigger.

You should be able to get a great steak at all the top steakhouses that serve USDA Prime.

The differences are the atmosphere, the side dishes, unique cuts, etc. I've been to Delmonico's and Craftsteak and had excellent meals at both places.

Since you're staying at NYNY, it might be more convenient for you to go to Craftsteak. I had an amazing steak there.

Thanks again for all the help.

I think I'm narrowing it down to Craftsteak, Joe's, or SW, although I need to take a closer look at Cut.

This Golden Steer that my buddy swears by--has anyone been there? Reviews say it's pretty good but not the best, the ambience looks pretty cool though....

I will highly recomend CC me and my wife went there in Feb by the advice of many even dealers at the casino I was staying at.

We both had NY strips. Salad No drinks (except soda). Bill was $100 ($125 with tip) the best steak either one of us had very pleasant staff, liked the enviroment wasnt to formal my wife and I were both in Jeans and a tee shirt. Neither of us are into Fine dining. You can't even tell you are in CC I was worried about that as well and she wasnt too sure about it when she went into CC. We both came out stuffed and very satified with the food and price.

Again I will highly recomend it.

One place I never see mentioned in these threads is Morels (French steakhouse in Palazzo), where I had one of the best NY strips I've had anywhere.

Disclaimer: only other places I've had steak in LV: Delmonico, Emeril's MGM, Mesa Grill.

I'd follow the advice of others: work backwards from the rest of the menu - apps, sides and desserts and the one that rings your bell would probably be best for you.

At Craftsteak, any potato dish rocks, their snap peas would be a surprise hit, and I like exotic mushrooms - Craftsteak is the only place I can regularly get Hen of the Woods mushrooms. Their scotch list is also special, but you said you weren't there for the booze. Make the extra's fit YOUR personal taste.

I've been to the Morel's in LA, the food was OK but the place was just a complete disaster and too expensive for what it was.

I haven't been to Golden Steer but I've heard much about it and think I know the deal- very old school place that a lot of people rave about and a lot of other people think is terrible, and a lot of those who rave about it aren't really viewing it objectively (or haven't been there in years). It's my strong suspicion that the place isn't as good as they say it is and probably isn't as bad as the complainers. It's just an old school atmosphere that people remember fondly. In a town full of great steakhouses I'm not going to make the trip.

And Joe's is decent but I had a negative experience, being sat 1/2 hour after our reservation time. Big problem for me. Cut is quite good (I've been to the Beverly Hills one, not Vegas) and is ultra-high end, but I really disliked the atmosphere. Vegas might be better.

Oy, didn't notice OP was staying at NYNY. There's a steak place there with dry-air aged beef (or something like that) where you can walk by and look at the meat in the window. Can't remember the name and never been there, but it gets a lot of reccos.
