Hotel suggestions - Los Angeles

Me and a buddy are going to LA at the end of June for a weekend.
We plan to play at the Commerce and perhaps visit the Bike and HI Gardens.
Any recommendations on where to stay?
Places to avoid?
We are not big rollers. So the Commerce hotel is way too spendy.
I have stayed down the street at the Motel 6 near the 24 hour Ozzy's.
I see there is a hotel right next to the Bike. Anyone have any info about that place? It's cheap and convenient to both Bike and Commerce (we will have a car).
