The Rio hotel-casino in Las Vegas (Brett LeBlanc/Las Vegas Review-Journal)
Two recent guests at the Rio have contracted Legionnaires’ disease, which causes pneumonia-like symptoms, the Southern Nevada Health District announced Friday.
The guests stayed separately at the hotel, located at 3700 W. Flamingo Road. One visited in March, and the other visited in April, the health district said.
Shortly after the guests’ illnesses were confirmed, the property tested its water system, and the results came back positive for Legionella bacteria, the district said.
With the direction of the health district, the hotel began using chlorine at high temperatures to disinfect its rooms and water system Thursday night, said Mark Bergtholdt, environmental health supervisor.

Ended up booking Ballys.

Review:

- Room is clean and perfectly fine. I'd compare it to Miragae
- Casino is just kinda neutral and boring of course
- Location is top notch mid-strip
- Internet speed showing around 17Mbps on Fast right now
- Pool was OK, nothing special, but at least it had one
- Generally not a really young place, of course

Ended up getting my resort fees waived because of a massive mix-up with my name and another guest with the same.

For $100/night all in or so with taxes on a fri/sat, I can't really complain given the location.

I am staying at Vdara next week and I do not wish to valet. Which is the better parking area, Bellagio or Aria ? Also, I will have to much to lug from the self park garage on check in. Is there an area or way I can drop my stuff off, go park and then come back and check in ?

Thanks.

For the dates I'm looking at it would be about $100 more in total over 3 nights for the Aria suite. Aria is 920sq ft. versus the Cosmo 620sq ft. But the Cosmo has the kitchenette and the balcony. Any insight would be appreciated!
Aria was pretty phenomenal. Top notch service whenever I needed something, their exclusive lounge areas for guests staying in suites is nice, I got a $100 resort credit which I used to get a massage at the spa, which was great.. Overall can't say a bad thing about the stay really. Rooms were really sweet. Expensive, but as a once or twice per year thing, definitely worth it. I'll prob never stay anywhere else if I can help it.

there is a roundabout in front of vdara's main entrance where maybe you could park briefly to run your stuff inside. not sure how dickish the security is about such things though.

parking, both will be a long walk but I think Bellagio is slightly shorter if you take the "shortcut" corridor that connects Bellagio and vdara.

Some friends and I are going to Vegas in late Nov for a 30th birthday. Where's good to stay? I've been there before (3 months for the 2008 WSOP), the rest have not.

I imagine they'll prefer to stay on or very near the strip. There'll be some gambling but not a huge amount. There'll be a lot of drinking, as many of us are British. There'll be some going to shows, and I guess some time spent in a nightclub, though probably nothing crazy. What's the best hotel for, say, $100/night?

Looking at Expedia for the 23rd-29th, you could get the TI for $105 a night, the Mirage for $127, or the Mandalay Bay for $88. Given your wants, I'd say TI - Mandalay Bay is a nice property but on the S end of the strip, kind of on its own. None of those include resort fees - if you're trying to get a room for $100 a night including fees, you're looking at the Trop or something - reviews here have been mixed, so it probably depends on your tolerance for older, slightly run down but still serviceable.

If you're talking $100 per person per night, you can probably stay anywhere other than the Wynn/Encore, Cosmo and Aria. You can save a few buck by avoiding Friday/Sat dates. Best to book on the properties dedicated website rather than Expedia, for a bunch of reasons people have previously gone into here.

TI often has promotions that allow the resort fees to be optional if you don't want the items. I would recommend TI in that price range based on quality/value/location.

I just got home after an 8 day stay at the Palazzo. First time at the P after spending he previous two years at Venetian and previous stays at Harrahs, MGM Signature and Wynn

I really liked it. Stayed in the Luxury King suite - very similar to Venetian but decor was more to my taste, carpet was softer and the whole room and floor felt more modern/newer

As you'd expect (but doesn't always happen), everything worked perfectly, staff were friendly and helpful, maid service came every day, air con was great etc etc and I wasn't woken once by noisy neighbours, doors being slammed, drunks on the corridor etc. I was given an early check in (10.30am) and a late check out (1pm) with no hassles or requests for extra $$

The casino itself is way quieter than the Venetian and I liked that - walking own restaurant row towards the P was almost soothing. Clientele is a little older and more genteel - older couples, some families etc as well as the weekend party crew and suits on conferences

The P pools aren't as big/much of a zoo as the main V pool with the Tao music, but you can access the venetian pools easily if you want. And the pools are quieter and there was always loungers easy to find and access, so I actually spent more time at the P pools than at the ones at the V. Palazzo also has it's own fitness centre which isn't as good as Venetian's - less free weights, no climbing walls, half the size - but again, you can access the Venetian fitness centre free of charge.

I ate several times at Grand Lux and also Lagasse's sports bar and also at the Hong Kong Kitchen place. All were fine - 7-8/10 and exactly what I was expecting.

I would definitely stay here again, would 100% choose it over the Venetian and would recommend it to anybody considering it

This site lists all the hotels and casinos in Las Vegas. http://www.lvol.com/hotelnks.html I have found in the past that by doing a bit of research, dealing directly with the hotel/casinos and booking early, considerably good accommodation deals can be arranged. If you have a players card, make sure you sign into the site using the card, in most cases you will get a discount on costs. Most places only require a deposit and they can be cancelled up to 48 hours before arrival with no loss of deposit. Once you have made your accommodation bookings, keep checking back every week or so to see if the prices have gone down. If they have just cancel the original booking and make a new one at the cheaper rates. Rates do tend to decrease from November onwards, leading up to New Year's eve. Good luck with your trip. I will be back there on July 11 for a month after a two year absence.

Cosmo is closest self-parking garage and that is $10 / day.

Bellagio is $15 / day.

Vdara valet is $25 / day.

If you do have a lot of luggage, I'd choose between Vdara and Cosmo.

This is from someone who has stayed at the rio for 14 our of the last 17 days. Its good to get away and it's hard for me to sleep at rio . walking to rio from gold coast is easy , so if you are getting a good deal at gold coast and dont have to give them much action , I would highly consider it. I have never stayed at gold coast so I can't speak for their rooms , but if its anything like some of fhe other boyd properties , it will be a good , clean no frills room.

I would say, yes. The Gold Coast is definitely an older property as to both the plant facility customer base, but the rooms are fine for what you need, the dining is utilitarian, it is quieter than the Rio, and a welcome get-away. Hotel- casino basics all there .... Worth making the short walk over to the Rio

OTOH, I always hated staying at the Rio. Unless you really want to stay where you are playing, stay anywhere else if you plan on more than three nights in the hotel.

I know this thread mainly seems to be centered around Strip and near-Strip properties, but I just spent a couple of nights at the M, and I was very impressed by the rooms there, especially for what it cost.

Now obviously the rooms are reasonable for a reason - the M is way out south in the boonies, it may as well be in Primm. But just putting it out there - the regular hotel rooms at the M are quite nice.

Stayed at PH this weekend on a comp. Usually stay at Aria, but they were sold out by the time I tried to book.

Pros: Location was good. I could be out the door and across to Cosmo (where I spend a lot of time) in about 5-10 minutes, which is great. Rooms were fine. Comfortable bed, but nothing special. No desk, but it did have a little table.

Cons: Came into the room one night and it reeked of weed. I guess it was coming through from the neighbor. Called down to the front desk not to narc on neighbor, but because I was in a non-smoking room. Wanted to alert them so they wouldn't try to charge me however many hundred dollars they can charge when you smoke in a non-smoking room.

****ing flooding. I was in my room when the flooding began. Actually rode down on the elevator with a PH security guy, who got off at the Mezzanine. He didn't bother to tell me when I got to the bottom, I would be walking into water. Had to go back up to the Mezz. Couldn't get down to the casino floor. I was stuck in the hotel with probably 50 other people. Elevators wouldn't work. We looked for someone from PH to tell us what to do. Fire alarms were going off everywhere, so it was a little scary.

We asked one staff member where the stairs were. She claimed there were no stairs. I laughed. Eventually found the stairs. Went down some sketchy hallways and unmarked corridors and eventually found a way out. Later, with the north bank of elevators not working, people were running around lost. No one there to provide any direction.

One guy in a suit talked to me like I was a moron when I asked how I could get back to my room. He said, "Um, you COULD take the South elevators?" as if I was a ****ing idiot. I told him the people told me when I checked in to use the North elevators, and given that it is a Vegas casino, it's not ****ing self-evident that the North and South elevators would both access the same rooms or even the same tower. ****ing absurd. It turns out the South elevators turn you out on the other side of the floor, causing a two-minute longer walk.

Still, ended up missing my flight because 1) it took so damn long to figure everything out, 2) the elevators were super slow with so many people having to use one bank, and 3) fire trucks/ambulances blocked some of the entrance, causing them to divert Lyft drivers. I had a 120AM flight out and got back to the PH at around 10PM to collect my bags, shower, etc before going to airport. Should have been plenty of time. Ended up not getting to airport until 1245 because of all of the hassle/difficulty, forcing me to miss the flight. Extremely frustrating.

Still think it's an ok place to stay for free if you do a lot of your bidding at Cosmo/Aria/Bellagio as I do. I was unimpressed by the service, but that's to be expected, I guess.

It is important to note that Planet Hollywood's hotel operations, guest services and most casino and other services were unaffected by last night's water leak.
