HI Yall,

I am heading to Vegas in June and would like to inquire about what healthy food options there are. I am mainly interested in juice bars or smoothie bars and that kinda thing. I am staying at PH but will be moving around a fair bit.

I don't mind eating at normal restaurants but its more for just like snacks and stuff I can only handle so many days of wings and beer.

I seem to remember a juice bar opening in Aria about a year or so ago but not sure if that is still around.

Thanks in advance.

Whole Foods is on LV Blvd (south of Mandaly Bay). I would suggest going there and stocking up.

Yeah I am not a super athlete or anything. It is just nice to have a lighter snack like a fruit smoothie vs. wings & beer at the poker table.

I did stock up at Whole Foods for my last trip I was just curious if there was anything that popped up on the strip since my last visit. It is a bit of a pain to take a taxi out there.

Ask for no sugar and skim milk, otherwise you'll get a quarter cup of sugar and prolly over 400 calories.

LOL @ Fruit Smoothies being healthy.

Not many options there under 500cal in a drink, 60g sugar/carbs.

i got into an argument the other day, i was trying to tell some guy that orange juice is not healthy food. i held up the bottle of orange juice and the can of coke and pointed out the sugar content was almost identical. but he was not phased, and was all like "you can't tell me fruit is not healthy bro!" and i was unable to win him over with my drinking a cup of sugar is unhealthy theory

This **** is pretty pervasive. The "fruits and vegetables" grouping is a part of this. If they get said in a phrase together, they must be the same, right?

The big weight loss programs add to this, too. My fiance is trying to lose some weight for our wedding and is doing well on Weight Watchers. She counts and weighs all kinds of ****. But fruit is "zero points." Literally, the program says, "Eat all the fruit you wan't! It's free!"

Which is nuts, of course. A **** load of fat kids are out there frustrated they aren't losing weight when they're eating buckets of watermelon this summer.

That goes for fruit in general. People don't want to believe it. It's not necessarily unhealthy, it's just loaded with sugar. Then people say, but it's a NATURAL sugar! Sugar is sugar, the body doesn't know where the carbohydrate molecules come from.

I agree with some of your points about fruit. But with the fiber and other vitamins and minerals that fruit provides, there are health benefits to eating fruit. A can of coke is just sugar with nothing that is beneficial.

A lot of diets that are promoted in the past few years focus more on watching sugar intake than fat intake. It use to be avoid fried foods at all cost. Now it is avoid all the extra sugar that is snuck into our diets.

Thanks for all the input fellas.

If your goal is just to lose weight and you are counting calories then there is no difference between calories consumed. In this case 1 calorie of coke is equal to 1 calorie of OJ.

If your goal is a more holistic approach to health then there is a significant difference. Without delving into the science I just know I feel better drinking a fruit/veg smoothie vs. 1-2 cokes.

Has anybody ever seen an overweight fruitarian or even raw vegan?

If you eat a 10lbs watermelon a day and nothing else, you are way below 1500 calories. So I doubt anyone is getting fat from eating too much watermelon.

Unfortunately, lots of nutrition is lost in most smoothies but eating raw fruit won't make anyone fat.

I don't think you know what you're talking about.

Pieces of fruit instead of sugary fruit juices is key. One medium orange and one banana will run you ~200 calories with relatively modest sugar content, but are also loaded with essential vitamins, fiber, potassium, etc. that all support a healthy lifestyle, keep you full longer, and are just plain good for you. People get into trouble when they down hoards of fruit that have little redeeming value (like watermelon) or drink 64 oz of orange juice - made even worse if there's sugar added. You won't get fat eating a banana and an orange every day, but you will drinking 64 oz of orange juice.

So you do know some overweight frutarians? I don't. In fact, none of the vegans or paleos I know is overweight and they all eat a boatload of fruit.

These health food threads always follow a similar route. They are usually started by someone that uses the "healthy" a little loosely when they actually mean that they will only try for a half order of fries.

The nutritionists can battle it out, I prefer to avoid sugar rather than fat and portion control is always a challenge in LV.

If someone is really into it at a decent level, they will know what they want to eat and can quickly find where to get it. If someone is just thinking back to their last trip where they struggled to take a crap after 3 days of bad eating and vowing this time will be different...:
1) Don't think a Julius is your daily dose of "healthy" - it isn't.
2) Drop a meal, breakfast and then a sensible early dinner is plenty.
3) An omelette and/or a fruit cup is fine for breakfast - swerve the pancakes, waffles, potatoes and bread. And order in a café rather than a buffet so you don't go in again.
4) A steak or fish with vegetable(s) and/or a salad to start is enough to share. Again decline the bread, the fries and anything similar.

That won't make you mr universe, but you should get home the same weight you went, if that was part of the goal. It works for me, at least.

Lol this perfectly applies to me. I definitely plan to get out of line a little bit and will be drinking every night.

I just want to take smooth ****s and feel decent on day 3.

I am 5' 11" and 200 lbs. I am not fat but I also am not even close to having abs.

From my perspective balance is the key.

OK that doesn't prove anything. They probably don't eat much else and don't get enough protein. A lot of fruit is high in sugar and bad for you.

Pampas in Planet Hollywood is one of my go to's when I wanna pig out and not have 150g sugar, 2200mg sodium and 5000+ calories in my meal. It's pretty much a Fogo clone with a much better salad bar. Pig out on all the protein and salad you want.

Protip: If you stare at their menu long enough outside the restaurant, the host will give you a 50% off card, just a 2 drink minimum (plain vodka/club soda & limes ftw.). All in all, w/tip you can make out for around $40-50/person w/ drinks for a ridiculously good meal.
