Good value hotel for WSOP 2016 weekends? Good value hotel for WSOP 2016 weekends?

Hi all, this will be my first time going to Vegas. I will be staying in the RIO mostly during the weekdays of WSOP. But the prices are quite crazy during the weekends. Would like to ask for recommendations on hotels to stay at during the weekends that are not too far from RIO and also not too budgety($100-ish USD)/night. Thanks in advance!

Weekends are going to be tough. By close, do you mean walking distance?

Walkable hotels that I'm aware of are: Rio (obviously), Gold Coast (can't vouch for it being nice), Palms (solid enough), Palms Place (nice). I think all but Gold Coast will be same/more expensive.

Shuttles - There are shuttles to Caesar's strip properties - Harrahs and Bally's that run every half hour. So, if you find a Center or North strip hotel that can work. Shuttles are every half hour, and while I've never had one fill up, I've heard that others have had that problem during peak times.

You may want to consider plan B - renting a car, which can be reasonable if you google for good discount codes. Just be aware that MGM properties (I think) will be charging for parking by the time you visit.

Good Luck!

Gold Coast should be good enough for what you're looking for. It's not super nice, but it's adequate for a two day stay. Plus you barely have to move on checkout days.

Just FYI, you'll never find a decent hotel that's close for less than $200/night on the third weekend in June, that's EDC weekend and every hotel in the city jacks up their rates to obscene levels.

thanks for the reply guys. Gold Coast is still a little expensive at over $200USD/night.

Any thoughts on hotels like Excalibur/circus circus & Harrah's? Or are there anymore to recommend? Basically ill just be here for the first two weeks of june

Circus Circus is terrible/in a terrible location. Excalibur I haven't been to personally but have heard mixed things about it. Harrah's is kind of a dump but its in a great location (center strip) so of those three options I would probably pick that.

Also, do these hotels offer poker room rates for poker players and will those rates be lower than those on third party sites like booking.com or hotels.com?

I've never stayed at Circus Circus, but confident that it is a total pit. I stayed at Excalibur in about 1995 and thought it was pretty bad then. As it's older, and my standards have increased, I'm sure it's worse now.

As I mentioned, Harrahs has the shuttle to the Rio. Probably your winner of those 3. Worth noting, 99.9% sure the shuttle won't let you transport your luggage. People take small shopping bags and whatnot, so maybe you could stash almost everything w/ Rio bellhops (not sure if they would do this) and just use a very small bag for the weekend.

As for poker room rates: http://www.pokeratlas.com/poker-room...s-vegas-nevada

Keep in mind strip Casinos recently raised their resort fee's to around $30 a night.

I make no guarantees, obviously, BUT Hotwire has 4* West of Strip hotels, which I believe, but am not 100% sure that only the Rio and Palms would hit that level. $92 for one and $121 for the other. I'm assuming the weekend in question is June 10/11.

If you are super positive you are going and don't mind not being able to cancel, that seems like a solid deal.

hey, thanks for all the input you have given, really appreciate it. I dont get what you are saying above though. I went to Hotwire and the prices for Rio and Palms were not $92 and $121 for the weekend of June 10/11. Could you clarify please? thanks

You need to look at the Hot Rate hotels where you don't see what the name of the hotel is until you book, otherwise you're basically looking at the same rates as you'd find on sites like Expedia. There are sites you can go to (such as BetterBidding.com) where you can figure out what the hotels are based on the star rating and amenities. The two 4* West of Strip hotels are Palms at $92 and Rio at $121 (you can tell because the $121 hotel features suites, and the $92 one doesn't).

Referring to the "Hot Rates", which are lower than advertised rates. You can't see the name until after you buy.

There aren't many nice hotels west of the strip, so you can pretty safely deduce what you're getting (by amenities, resort free at checkout). Again, pretty sure only 4* properties in that zone are Rio and Palms, but as I said - can't guarantee it.

I have been looking at the last weekend in June and Harrahs, the Linq, and the Flamingo are the cheapest that I have found. I think Harrahs is $91 while the other two are right at or slightly above $100...

Have you looked at just booking through the total rewards site? I am going from June 7-14 at Ballys for $215 before the resort fees (like $465 with fees and taxes). Worth looking at least.

Im guessing i would need to have at least clocked some hours/points right? I have absolutely 0 rewards/player cards as this is my first time coming to Vegas. Pretty stoked but still trying to figure out all the nitty gritty especially accomodation as the prices are pretty steep for the weekends.

Motel 6 or America's Best Value Inn off of Trop and Koval. Get it while it's hot, before the Oakland Raiders stadium gets those beautiful landmarks bulldozed. Lock yo doors, tho.

Any comments on the following properties :

Hilton grand vacation suites on the Las Vegas strip

Luxury suites international at the Signature

Harrah's

Both the Hilton and the signature suites looked decent and doesn't seemed to cost that much. Why is that so ?

I stayed at Harrahs four years in a row during the WSOP. It's my favorite place to stay from a cost/benefit perspective.

The rooms are good, not great. Smaller than the Rio, but bigger than like the LINQ or Monte Carlo at a similar price point.

Location is about as good as it gets: easy walk to Venetian, shuttle to Rio ( never had problems getting to the Rio, but getting back was sometimes a hassle, took a cab back to the strip twice I remember), and there's easy access to the Monorail.

There's really nothing special about the casino itself. There is a poker room with mostly really soft 1-2 games and occasionally 2-5. Rest of the casino is pretty basic.

Food options aren't great in the casino itself in my opinion. The buffet isn't bad. Toby Keith ' s is a little pricey for what it is (even by Strip standards), but there are some decent offerings and live country music ( if you're into that.) There's also a Ruth's Chris Steakhouse that I don't think is worth going to with so many other great steakhouses on the Strip. There is a food court like place right next store with a McDonalds, Chipotle, Panda Express, and pizza place for something cheap. I usually go to the LINQ promenade for cheaper casual sit-down places (really like the Yardhouse) and the Hash House in the LINQ is probably my favorite breakfast place.

The best place to eat in Harrah's is the Oyster Bar.

I think that the Orleans has a shuttle to the Gold Coast (right next to the Rio). You might want to check out there rates.

OP, are you planning to play mostly tournaments or all cash. The reason I ask is if you are playing a bunch of tournaments, just skip one and put the money into the room budget.

Ordinarily, my advice would be "you need more money for the trip." But WSOP is a special time for the poker community and I get it. Best of luck and hope you have fun and run hot.

Budget Suites, and its pretty close to the Rio

~$219 for the whole week. Wifi/flat screen TV, altho bed bugs i've heard are hit or miss....

its more of like a furnished apt with a full kitchen so you can grocery shop and cook, not get completely skinned by food costs. Now, this place isn't for everyone and probably does take a special type to see the value (and therefore the beauty) in it. For those special kind who like a good value check it out. And how much time are you really spending in the place anyway, not a bad setup on a Budget to function out of, also semi-close to the Rio.
