Getting around in Vegas
I'm going to Vegas for 3 nights and am going to sort of hop around on a day to day basis for some side events at Caesars/Binions/Venetian etc. etc.
I also want to check out the Rio to take in atmosphere of the WSOP since it's my first time in Vegas during the series.
I'll be staying right near Binions/Freemont Street, and i'm wondering if it makes sense to cab it all over for at least 10-15 a pop or just rent a car? I can rent a car for 3 days for like $50, but my main concern is parking and traffic.
The monorail was another option but the closest stop to where i'm staying is about 2 miles, at least from what I read.
I'm curious what people think is the best way to go.

Re: Getting around in Vegas
Pros and cons to each option.
Car Rental pros include lower costs, more independence, especially if you know where to park. At Rio in back by convention center which is where the WSOP is held. At Venetian in Palazzo parking garage, etc. Plus you can eat at places off strip which are typically much less expensive.
Taxi, pros are easy in/out. No need to park and walk. no need to return car when returning to airport.

Re: Getting around in Vegas
do you drink? If you take taxi's, you can take it easy or party it up and just do whatever. If you have to drive home, this might add 1 more layer of concern that you'd rather not worry about while on vacation.

Re: Getting around in Vegas
Hah, this is going to be strictly a poker trip so I don't anticipate more than one or two drinks a night. I think i'm just going to rent the car, thx for the input.

If you rent a car, when you go to the Rio, remember to swing around to the back parking lot, which is where the WSOP is, in the convention area.

Re: Getting around in Vegas
Rent the car, a taxi from downtown to the Rio and back will be $50 with tip. If you're not getting hammered its the logical way to go.
At the airport when you hand the garage people the paperwork ask them to upgrade you, they will usually do it no problem.
Last time I rented from there I had a Monte Carlo, it was like $14 a day. I reserved a lower class of car on Hotwire and they let me pick a car from the premium row and I didn't even have to ask for the upgrade.
Call your insurance company and add rental car coverage, it should be at most $2 a day, through the rental car companies it is $17+ a day, that's where they make their biggest profits.

I like the cab ride. Parking is a hassle early dinner hours in the parking structures. Its my extra part of vacation expense that I enjoy being driven around for a change and im free to go anywhere at anytime.

Re: Getting around in Vegas
How about the bus?
Binions to Venetian take the Deuce, which takes half and hour.
Binions to Rio, the Deuce and then the 202 which takes an hour.
(But I'd break up the trip with a stop over on the strip.)
Sure it takes longer, but why be in such hurry.
Personally I don't want to drive if I don't have to but $50
for a car is pretty cheap. Stay on the outer loop and back roads
and avoid the strip if you can with a car. A car will give you the opportunity to visit the off-strip places too. You can also get to cheaper
better restaurants.

Valet is free at every casino in Vegas. Give the Valet a couple bucks when you pick up the car, its the best deal in Vegas.

+1 on this one especially if you can get it for $50 but after gas included if it even comes close to what cabs would cost then Id go with the cabs but I think they'll be more if your back and forth alot

The last thing I'd want to do this time of year in Vegas is stand outside waiting for a bus.
