Re: Forum Rules and Organization Discussion - Seeking Input

I like the idea of sub forums: Trip reports, Food, events, shopping, scurrilous activities, Shows, etc. But I do not like long threads that make it difficult to find the latest update or status of the thread topic. I also don't know how to fix this.

Obviously we need a "I'm moving to Vegas" master thread.

Re: Forum Rules and Organization Discussion - Seeking Input

I think enough people enjoy reading TRs that a sub-forum would work. I would suggest that non-lv trip reports posted by people who also post vegas tr's should be tolerated in there. I know that I love to read Leo's tr's but I'm not gonna search high and low through 12 different forums in an effort to see if there's one I'm missing.

I like the idea of consolidating:

1) Las vegas Lifestyle -anything goes (that the mods feel is appropriate)

2) Las Vegas Poker -all forms / all levels of Poker in Vegas

Re: Forum Rules and Organization Discussion - Seeking Input

What do you folks think about a Help Wanted thread?

It so happens that when the Poker Room Manager thread popped up, I had a couple of tech positions I needed filled, and was immediately jealous of the opportunity to present a help wanted ad in this forum. I had a couple of conversations with mods about doing so but I filled the positions by other means before I could take action. I figure now is a good time to try to start the thread, since I don't have any immediate needs, but others probably do and I may in the future.

I think it would be a great service. Enough people post 'moving to Vegas' threads in this forum that I'm convinced potential employers would get plenty of resumes, not to mention the numbers of unemployed locals. I don't know about other industries, but I know that in mine there are plenty of part-time poker players.

Anybody else like the idea? What kind of ground rules for posts and replies would be wise that we could put in the initial post?

Sure.

And I swear, one day I'll have time to actually sit down and try to incorporate some ideas and streamline some stuff into a more organized fashion. The food stuff and the poker room stuff in particular has a lot of potential to grow.

Re: Forum Rules and Organization Discussion - Seeking Input

I feel like the only thing that really deserves a subforum are trip reports. They're distinct threads, easy to identify while tougher to search for, and not of interest to everyone. Everything else (food, hotel, etc) fits just fine in threads in the main forum.

Re: Forum Rules and Organization Discussion - Seeking Input

Suggest splitting forum into 3 parts:

Las Vegas Poker (could be in B&M Regional Communities)

Las Vegas For Tourists (Can I walk from casino A to B? Should I rent a car?)

Las Vegas For Locals (What neighborhood should I move to? What's the best dry cleaner in Henderson?)

Curious as to why a thread about a former LVLer welshing on a bet was memory-holed.

I forget who OP was, but seemed credible.

It was moved to the mod forum. It's being discussed how it will be handled.

Re: Forum Rules and Organization Discussion - Seeking Input

I think the food sub forum is fine....I personally don't care about it and having it contained makes my viewing easier.

A trip report sub forum would be awesome....that's mostly what I browse this LVL for anyway

Also, an "I'm moving to Vegas and taking a shot" sub forum would be good....the other reason I visit LVL (could also add in full time Vegas grinders here...not just people that are planning to move there in the future)

Re: Forum Rules and Organization Discussion - Seeking Input

I've come to the opinion that a bunch of subforums just ruins the main forum. It's not that big and unwieldy of a forum anyway, so it seems like a solution in search of a problem.
