Forum Rules and Organization Discussion - Seeking Input
We've combined the FAQ with the general Vegas discussion thread, and moved the underaged gambling and housing rental disclaimers into the FAQ.
New forum rule regarding poster interactions with each other:
No name calling. Gonna result in temp-bans.
Forum organization:
There are a variety of topics that come up frequently. Many seem like they deserve a master thread (if they don't have one already). I'll be trying to combine old threads into one master thread.
Contenders:
FAQ/Useful Links/General Questions
Housing market
Condo market
Nightclubs/Dayclubs
Stripclubs
Hookers/Whorehouses (discussion of how to acquire illegal hookers (e.g. website links) not permitted)
Bachelor Parties
Fine Dining
Casual Dining
Pizza
Sushi
Other? (Breakfast/Brunch? Buffets?)
Poker Tournaments
NL Cash games
Non-NL Cash Games (Mix, Omaha, Limit HE, etc)
Hotels (segregate in some way?)
Non-Gambling things to do
Casino Gambling discussion (BJ/Craps/Video Poker...rules, comps, etc)
Other questions:
Subforum for trip reports?
Subforum for food/restaurant reviews, or are the threads above sufficient?

Re: Forum Rules and Organization Discussion - Seeking Input
- Sub forum for TRs is a very good idea, should be done.
- RE Mega thread: Yes!
-The big Clubbing thread is good.
-The Dining threads are good and should be kept.
- Mega thread for strip clubs (and hookers) and bachelor parties would be a good idea, since we get threads about this once in a while.
Probably add some mega threads for food as you mentioned.
Other than that, I am against too many mega threads. It often times kills discussions and is in general not very well structured. Of course, people will create unnecessary threads, but if this is kept to a few threads a day, there is no harm done. Some people dont want to keep up with all the mega threads, so they prefer replying to the "small" threads. If we lose those people, it would be a shame, since often times mega thread questions dont lead to big discussions. It wil also be more difficult to use the search function to look for past input.
My post is not very well structured, so I hope my input was at least somewhat useful.

Re: Forum Rules and Organization Discussion - Seeking Input
Only subforum I would suggest would be for trip reports. Everything else belongs in the main forum. Subforuming seems like a surefire way to kill traffic.

Re: Forum Rules and Organization Discussion - Seeking Input
i think a food subforum would be cool because then people can start threads about individual restaurants they won't be confined to the huge thread

Re: Forum Rules and Organization Discussion - Seeking Input
no name calling? that's for poo poo heads.
agree on tr subforum and there should probably be a steakhouse thread apart from the fine dining thread because those are really two different things but prob too late.
problem with putting the faq at the beginning of the general questions thread is that people don't always read the first page of a thread but that might be fine. anyone who reads a faq will read it and those that don't won't regardless

Re: Forum Rules and Organization Discussion - Seeking Input
No offense but I liked how things were! This has prob been the best modded forum on 2_2 (as from what I can tell there was not a lot of modding other than pointless / spammy threads being closed)
The only possible subforum would be trip reports. Everything else should stay as is.
Have you even being posting in this forum up until now?
I say leave things as they are , no new stickies , no new subforums imo, maybe even no new mods.

Forgot to add as well..... I hate threads being merged. Who cares if the topics overlap, its a bitch to read a merged thread!

Re: Forum Rules and Organization Discussion - Seeking Input
TR subforum? If creating a subforum for TRs would result in reduced traffic/views of the TR, then I think you'll be seeing fewer of them. Perhaps that's not a bad thing tho, if the general consensus is that they don't add sufficient or worthwhile content to the main forum.
For the posters that take the time and effort to create a good one, I'd think having it relegated to a subforum would be a disincentive to post it here.

I would add that I doubt what is bolded is the consensus.

There also was a larger thread about steakhouses.

None taken. The reason for the thread is to get feedback. Other than subforums (which are unlikely to happen, but may at some point if volume increases, especially the food one), all the things discussed are relatively minor.
Nothings changed yet other than going from 3 stickys to 1 (not counting this one which will go away).

Re: Forum Rules and Organization Discussion - Seeking Input
i'd love to see a tournament questions containment thread. people tend to just start their own thread even if they've done a bit of searching. allvegaspoker doesn't update often. and people have different criteria like buy-in amount, number of players, location, structure, different games, etc...
a containment thread would allow people to ask quick questions. we could answer if we feel like it or ignore the thread if we're annoyed by it.

Re: Forum Rules and Organization Discussion - Seeking Input
very good idea, a "tournament questions containment thread" is a pretty good idea. too bad the fools will ignore it anyway!

I think the exact opposite thing is happening.
LVL has approximately 1 to 1.5 pages of threads updated every day (i.e. something is being posted - I hope that makes sense). So, if you dont check the forum daily, you miss a TR that is on page 2 or 3.
Some people are only looking for TRs in here (that's what I used to do years ago in B&M). Maybe have a combined TR sub forum for LVL and B&M, this would maybe even increase traffic for LVL TRs.
Summa summarum, I think a TR subforum would help - at the minimum not decrease - TR traffic.

Re: Forum Rules and Organization Discussion - Seeking Input
Subforum, "Hookers & Blow" that would deal with strip clubs, bachelor parties, pole dances, lap dances, nude maid services, weed from bellhops, and other quasi-beat-around-the bush descriptions of all things immoral and/or illegal without actually saying how or where to buy it
