Re: Following my dream AGAIN! Moving to Vegas in July
From everything I have read of this thread thus far, it sounds like your decision to do this has more to do with your dissatisfaction over your job, girls and your personal life in general more then it has to do with poker. Regardless of whether or not you have enough money to do this or not (and you don't), I can't imagine that you are in the right mindset for such an attempt.
Vegas is one of those places that will suck you in very easily. I've known people to leave behind jobs, girlfriends/wives and even their own children once they arrive here. I realize you have logically thought out everything at the moment, but go on a 2 day heater and you would be surprised how quickly you reason to yourself that you don't need your new job.
I am not saying you shouldn't do this necessarily, but only that you be honest with yourself as to why. The fact is there are far better places to play poker in this current economy then Vegas and if you are a winning player and beating the games in your area, then there really is no reason to come all the way out here.
And perhaps you are a winning player, but you cannot guarantee that you will hit the good side of variance within the limitations of your current bankroll. You are "hoping" to go on a heater in the first few days, but within this context "hope" is just another word for "gamble" so you might as well come to Vegas and throw your entire roll on black and "hope" for the best. As harsh as that may sound, it's as good a plan as the one you are currently planning to undertake.
Such advise is not new and has been said a million times over on this forum. In spite of the advise most end up doing what they want anyway, as I have certainly done in the past and as you probably will as well. That having been said, good luck.

I know that my chances to make it this time are small, but am willing to take the risk. After all i think i learned alot from living on poker winnings for few years and from busting my BR several times.
Again, I know I don't have the bankroll to grind but I've been on good streaks alot before, so am just hoping I would run good in the first week and once I get to 6k, I think I won't look back again

I think giving vegas another shot even if i go busto will make me feel much better than what am feeling now.. thanks man, i appreciate gl wishes
you should immediately attempt to get a job when you get here to help smooth out variance.

I would try my best to get a part-time job when i get there, but jobs are hard to find in vegas.. but will definitely try

You are totally right, my desire to get out of town and have a fresh start far away from here is much stronger than anything, I still want to make it in vegas but if it don't make it, I am sure I will achieve something more important that is "I will feel better" ... Am 25 btw

Best wishes to you sir.............
Making it means everything to me, what I did before and what I will do again is trying to pursue a dream that I always had.. Making it means the world to me, making it in vegas means I will find myself again and will feel better + I really need to get away for a while at least

My replies are in the Quote.. Thanks guys for the advice and gl wishes, really means alot

Again, thanks alot for the advice and you are right its more about escaping my current life than it is about poker.. But, am the kind of person when i sit at a poker table I forget about everything else this is how much I love poker n how much it drives me.. I've lived in vegas long enuf (went there few times and last time was a 6 month long trip) I know vegas n what it does to some ppl but it didnt do me much bad, I am willing to take this shot cuz I know if I end up busting, I would still be a winner

Re: Following my dream AGAIN! Moving to Vegas in July
This is a horrible idea, but then again you already know that. I believe that you will be cashing out from your bankroll to cover living expenses correct? If this is true then I would say that even if you had the poker skill of Phil Ivey you have close to a 100% chance of going broke. Your only hope is that you run like GOD and have multiple +1k days.
The smart play is to work two jobs and build up a real bankroll for live poker (this is what I did after black Friday). Your life will suck ass for about 6-9 months but at the end when you have about 15k built up you will have a real shot at being able to make it.
That being said I doubt you will listen to me. So good luck, I hope you beat the odds!

I did beat the 1/2 and 2/5 (Actually 90% of the time I played at the V), ask ppl about Mack.. maybe some regs still remember me
Things went ugly when i moved up to 5/10 uncapped game at the V, which I am not good enough to play and was not rolled even close to be playing it
|
Hmm, I remember a Mack, played with him at MGM and the V about 2-3 years ago. If I recall correctly though, this Mack said he was from Arizona. Met him at MGM when him I caused two tables to break because we kept felting everyone. Not like that was awfully difficult at MGM back then.
Was that you?
Nonetheless, good luck!

Perhaps I'm forever a cynic, but I'm starting to sense an elaborate setup for a stake request down the line.

Best of luck with your move.
Do you still have access to health ins from your job? Depression is serious business, therapy might really help. Hope you feel better soon.

No I am not interested in a stake and won't be requesting one in the future.

Re: Following my dream AGAIN! Moving to Vegas in July
Did you say you were in Raleigh? Drive down to FL and play those games for a few months. Prolly cheaper than a plane ticket and you have a beach. Some other thread in the LVL forum is going to LV this summer to "do it big" with only 2k to his name. Seriously don't get why you or others would want to do this that far from home. Drive to somewhere closer, I dunno. Didn't NC just pass a bill in regards to table games or poker?
Sheesh, I'm just trying to imagine this. Just getting an apt, settled, eating a week's worth of food, getting some groceries, getting yourself around Vegas...man 2k is nothing. Of course, I like hearing this stories, but man, you don't even have a cushion. You're basically giving yourself 3 sessions to win or go home. What happens if you bust before a month in regards to living? You just waste a whole month of rent when u busto in 3 days? Better pray to variance gods before then, no matter how good at poker you are. GL.
