If you keep your eyes open you can find chips, bills and slot vouchers on the floor occasionally. I almost always see a voucher for pennies and just leave it there.. but I want to hear some stories...

here are some of mine:
  • $100 chip in the middle of a dark carpet
  • $25 chip in the middle of a dark carpet
  • $60 bucks in twenties laying on the floor of near empty row of slots
  • $30 slot voucher upside down on a main casino walkway
  • $20 in 4 reds under poker table
  • Probably various other $5 and $1 chips found but can't recall them.

That would put me at let's say $250 over about 7 years in Vegas.
Let's say $35/year

One of these days i know i will see a nice yellow chip just laying there in the middle of nowhere.

just to make it clear i am not speaking of theft or not alerting someone to dropped cash or valuables - clearly this is to be a discussion of chips or bills just laying in the middle of nowhere with no possible identifiable owner.. you can also turn this into a - what would you do? return it to casino security or put it in your pocket....

If you read the book "Beneath the Neon", which is about people who live in the tunnels, they talk about savaging for tickets/chips/money left behind as a main source of their income.

Cheers,

You know you are stealing from the casino when you do this, right?

I've heard about that and seen a short documentary online... Fascinating stuff. I'm in no way talking about going up and down rows of slot machines trying to find ones with credits forgotten. That's entirely something else.

I'm only talking about the random Vegas local or anyone who isnt looking for it at all and occasionally sees money on the floor in the casino.

I left $10 in a machine before, and didn't realize I did until hours later. It was gone. Not shocked that someone (who probably needs it more than me) or the casino picked it up.

I believe the question as to whether or not this is considered stealing was settled by the Supreme Court case Finders Keepers v. Losers Weepers.

As for me I've found a couple of green chips (oddly enough, no reds or whites) and a $20 bill. Not to mention a winning football ticket (lost the game but beat the spread). It's not like I go around picking up all the dropped tickets I can find, something just caught my eye and it was a $25 or so winner.

Of course, it all got evened out when I dropped my cellphone while sitting at a blackjack table and whoever found it didn't return it to security.

Left in a machine and on the floor is a different story. I've heard that if money is physically in the slot machine, its the casinos and to go to a machine and play money that was left behind or just cash it out is against the rules. But if something is left on the floor I think thats different. Not 100% sure but what precedent would a casino have for saying all lost money is theirs? Sounds ridiculous to me. At least in poker (in Vegas) if someone leaves money on the table it is picked up, put in an envelope and they have a certain amount of time to claim it and if they don't its donated to charity.

I found a 5er on the floor a couple weeks ago.

they talked about this on "gambling with an edge" a few months back.

everything is taped, so if it's obvious that it's not your property, it's theft.

as i recall, taking slot credits, definitely theft... finding $$$, probably.

Found a hundred dollar bill coming out of the bathroom at the WSOP. It was during a break and there were a ton of people in that hallway and I just happened to notice it on the carpet.

In Australia keeping lost items, money, etc is known as "theft by finding" and you can be prosecuted. I work with a bunch of Aussie casino guys, and they support/believe in this law to the point that it leads to heated arguments.

Needless to say, we fail to see eye to eye on the matter.

Once saw a guy find a c note in the middle of a poker room. He took it to the floor who had security check the cameras. It turns out the owner was still in the poker room and they gave it back to him. He ended up giving the finder 20 bucks. Win win

Found a c note on floor when exiting tram from Aria to Bellagio. Looked around to see if anyone had wallet out. No one did. So added to my winnings for the day. Good day

I've found a lot of chips/cash/vouchers in the casinos over the years.
Here's a few that stick out.

Found a $100 chip on very dark carpet at the Rio, I actually walked past it, then it processed in my head that it looked like a chip so I went back and picked it up.

Sat down at an Airplane slot machine and there were 2 $25 chips just sitting on it. Me and my friend looked at each other and laughed.

Found a $100 bill on the floor right outside the old poker room at the Palms.

Found a TITO for $380 on the floor of a sportsbook last year. I was sitting down eating some food from the deli, looked down and it was under the seat in front of me facedown. There was no one in the vicinity so I kept it.

Found a $25 chip under the Ultimate Texas Hold Em table game I was playing.

Found 2 $25 chips on the floor in the middle of Mandalay Bay, they were about 1 foot away from each other.

Sat down to play video poker at the Tropicana, I stuck my $40 ticket in and the machine credits was like $290 or so. Someone must have been playing earlier on the machine and left the money in it. That was definitely weird.

I've also found tons of phones, purses and wallets. I always return the wallets and purses either to the owner or security, the phones I usually just wait till they call or text and then meet up with them. I dont trust leaving a phone with security, its much easier to just find the owner. In August I found an iPhone on the floor at the Venetian, asked all around the area if anyone lost a phone and no one did. Wound up leaving and went home. The phone was locked so I couldn't call out to one of the last numbers to find the owner. I charged it overnight and around 1pm the phone rings. It was the girl that lost it. She came to the house with one of her friends to pick it up. I was going to meet some friends at Mandalay Bay to get drunk at the pool so instead of me driving there and leaving my car the chick gave me a ride.

I've found tons of $5 and $1 chips and a bunch of $20's, $5's and singles.
Dont think I've ever found a $10 bill.

I also found $5000 extra in my bank account 12 years ago, bank error in my favor!

We had a long thread about this a while ago. It is technically theft, since it does belong to the casino. In a machine, on the floor, doesn't matter. If they see you pick it up they might come asking for it.

-found a $25 chip on the floor near the cage at the tulalip casino. tried to give it to the cashier but she told me to keep it.
-found $100 bill in the ATM inside the casino once. kept it but later felt guilty. donated $100 to charity.
-probably found $40-$50 over the years out walking the dog including a $20 bill early one morning.
-flopped quads and had two people shove into me. true story.

I remember talking to an ex-local bum/hustler who said that he used to get those abandoned credits all the time when they first started switching to compute-based slots. One casino told him that, while it wasn't illegal, per se, it was frowned upon, and against THEIR rules. They banned him.

Fun post to read.. Exactly why I made the thread.

The iPhone chick story is pretty hilarious.
The TITO in the sports book is great as is finding the credits randomly on the machine.

This is certainly theft in all PA casinos. There are notices posted in many locations citing the actual state law. Taking possession of any cash, vouchers, or chips that aren't yours that were dropped or left in a machine is illegal.
