My wife and kids (4 year old and 7 month old) are going to the WSOP with me this year. What are some good family friendly things to do out there? We're going to the natural history museum and the M&M store thing but what else?

Also, I booked a room at Silverton for a week. How is that place?

My wife and I have been to Vegas many times, but this last winter was the first time we brought The Kid, who had just turned eight. Highlights:
  • Ethel M chocolate factory, cactus garden
  • M&M and Coca-Cola stores
  • Neon Museum
  • Bellagio fountain, conservatory, chocolate fountain
  • High Roller
  • Pinball Hall of Fame
  • Container Park
  • Mirage volcano
  • Venetian canals and gondolas
  • My Kid is older and in dance class so was mesmerized by Cirque du Soleil "O"
  • meh, kids love swimming pools

If you like lake stuff, there's Lake Mead. Hot, hot, though. Various aquariums, check-in desk at Mirage, sharks at Mandalay Bay. Sharks might be a bit scary for a 4 year old though.

Silverton is the anti-Aria. Instead of hip hop blaring through your brain it's country music. Lower volume of course. Never stayed in the hotel, but the casino seems nice enough. If you're an outdoorsman even a little teeny bit, you will never want to leave Bass Pro Shops. You will find yourself calculating on whether you can afford new boat payments even if you live 500 miles from the closest body of water. It's like the Home Depot of hunting/fishing/boating/atv'ing.

Cool, thanks for the tips. I'll have to draw up an itinerary to make sure I can keep track of them all.

If anyone else has ideas or reviews of Silverton, I'm all ears.

Silverton is fine. Nothing fancy but if you are just looking for a quiet clean place it'll work. I actually stay there a lot because they are pretty liberal with free room comps. You don't have to give very much pit action to start getting them. They also have a good off the radar steakhouse called Twin Creeks. I actually started going to the silverton because of Twin Creeks. They used to have a killer happy hour and speciality rib eye deal. It's still pretty good it's just not as good of a value as before. It's more like good value now and it was insane value before.
