Nothing better than solo poker trips..... I usually go 12-18 nights. With the wife flying in for a 4 night stop over at some point during the trip. Best of both worlds

went solo in February this year for 12 days, was only supposed to be 9 days but extended coz it was awesome. really easy to meet people in vegas.
Going back at the start of august for another ~10 days.. will have to see if it turns into more.

Think I'm gonna give the solo trip another try. It didn't work out last time but I'll reduce it to 10 days and hopefully I'll handle it better this time

Have done it a few times, and doing it again this weekend. This time I am going to mix in a few tournaments and other activites like get a massage and spend more time at the pool. Usually when I solo it I grind cash for hours and hours and rarely see the sun.

I think having some other activities and a routine is a good idea. The big danger with the solo trip is complete disconnect from a clock and exhaustion and burn out. Planning to have dinner every evening at a certain time or go to bed at a set time (even if it is 3am) had been very good for me.

I'm looking forward to my next trip out there which will be a solo trip. I lived out there so I think I could get in a pretty healthy routine, but I could just as easily look up and see that I've just completed a 40 hour session.

Someone else wrote about not knowing what to do with themselves - I have a 1.5 year old, who is actually a super easy kid so far compared to what I hear from others - but I have to imagine it will be a little weird not having to wait on her (for lack of a better term) for a few days.

Also, I know damn well I will appreciate a quiet hotel room. I mean uninterrupted sleep/sleeping in is in the top 3 reasons I'm looking forward to a solo trip. I've only been out of the house since we had a kid like three times and I think I hear her in my sleep a ton - which is weird because she's slept through the night 99 percent of the time since 10 weeks (sick parent brag there that would get me punched in some circles)

Also + 1 to poker players doing the trip solo. Made a few trips to Vegas with a friend(s) and on some never played poker because they weren't interested at all and felt like I couldn't leave "them" hanging like that for so long. It is a weird feeling you get and you end up leaving regretting that you didn't do your own thing a bit. However, all those trips were fun for different reasons.

I agree TragicHero. I have also been very lucky with my 14 month old but it gave me a much higher appreciation of sleep. In the past if I woke up after 3 hours I had a very hard time going back to sleep and usually gave up quickly and headed out to play. My most recent trip I easily and happily rolled over and went back to sleep.

Most of my group trips are other poker guys so it isn't too hard to begin with but I make a point of telling everyone ahead of time I plan to spend most of my time playing poker other than some planned dinners or shows. Then they know not to expect me for other activities. Expectation management seems to work.

Yeah, I mean on trips with my wife - who plays zero poker - we got into a pretty good routine where we do a dinner and/or show and she clocks out pretty soon after that and I play for a few hours after that.

Congrats on having the pretty easy kid, it really is the nuts in parent land. I have friends who tell me they haven't slept since there kid was born three years ago. Shudder.

I have 2 kids, my boy is nearly 5 and didn't sleep thru the night once untill about 6 months ago... My daughter is 9 months and she hasn't slept thru the night once yet.

After writing this out I'm wondering why I'm hesitant about doing Vegas solo?

Don't be hesitant at all. Book it and go. After having two kids Vegas is more than poker. It's sleeping in, pool, relaxation, freedom AND poker

The downside is the make-up you have to do for your spouse solo parenting. But if your spouse is reasonable it is awesome.

I owe my wife a spa weekend now.

Will be hitting LV solo 21st may until after the Colossus... Would be good to take a time out from the table to link up a 2p2er.

The champions league final is also on during that time I think, would be good to watch with fellow football, sorry, "soccer", fans

My first ever trip to Vegas was solo for 10 days after I had just found out my wife (at the time) was cheating on me with one of my best friends. Everything went to hell and I said fugg it. I packed my bags while she was at work and took off to Vegas - didn't tell anybody and wasn't really planning to come back.

With only about $2K to my name, I first booked a room at Arizona Charlie's off the strip and started playing some poker. About day 4 or 5 I made the mistake of calling home from my room, and hung up when she answered. She knew it was me and with a Google search on the Caller ID figured out I was in Vegas, and sent the cops after me.

Security at Arizona Charlie's found me in the casino one night and pulled me into the backroom to talk to the cops, who told me flat out that my wife had called, worried about my safety. But also confessed to checking out my room, and noticed that with all the clothes / bags I had, I didn't appear to be suicidal. After talking to me a bit they sent me on my way and recommended I call home. I didn't.

I got a job at a restaurant and rented a room in someone's house, hellbent on staying. My first day on the job, I finally answered one of her phone calls on my cell. I told her I wasn't coming back, and I wanted a divorce. She begged me to come home; said she was sorry and wanted to work it out. After all we owned a home together. I caved and caught a flight back.

When I got home, I found it was just the opposite. She basically told me to move out of my own house and filed for divorce. Cucking funt!

Going to make my second trip every to Vegas in a few weeks. It will be my first time on the strip, and my first time solo. Last time I was there with friends, we spent all of one day on Fremont Street, and that was it.

I don't know that I'll be doing much more than playing poker and looking at the free sights though. Hopefully that will be enough to keep me occupied.

Unless by any chance someone has a recommendation for a bar that is a casual pubby karaoke type place walkable from the strip?
