I lost track of this thread until the recent bumping.

I went back and reread the responses to my posts and I think I'm going to have to change my name to Doctor Sarcasm because some people thought I was being one hundred percent serious.

FWIW, I'm going on my first solo trip to play a WSOP event this year.

Damn, I would do the trip solo, but the drive is so long and boring by yourself.

There is this thing called a plane.

Speaking of which, when traveling solo by plane, what do people do with the bags they put under the seat when they need to use the restroom? I'm going to be traveling with computer gear that I would rather not let out of my sight but not really sure I want to haul it into the bathroom. Getting cathed preflight is not an option.

Better to just be on your own and can do whatever you want, eat whenever you want, sleep, etc. And I do go to shows by myself, what's wrong with that, grab a seat and a drink and enjoy a show. Also eating alone is great too, sit at the bar and chat with the bartender or at a table and go over all the betting lines, or read a book.

Another endorsement here from the whole staggered trip idea. I've done this several times with my wife, where I'll go out 3 or 4 days early, or stay 3 or 4 days after, and then have the wife come in for 3 days. She doesn't want to be there any longer than 3 days anyway, and doesn't want to keep me from playing poker, so it's the best of both worlds, a couple days with the lady for shopping, walking, dinner, shows, and then a few days alone to get my poker fix in.

And if your relationship can't handle that sort of thing, then you probably need therapy, or you're way too co-dependent and have trust issues.
This about sums it up for me as well. I don't need a posse to be self-indulgent.

+1, Vegas solo is the nuts. Especially for poker, when you don't want to be cajoled out of giving up a great table because your friend or spouse wants to do something else.

What are you really worried about? How far can someone get with your stuff when you are on a plane?

I would just ask the person in the next seat to keep an eye on my bag. If it wasn't there when I got back, I would cause a mini-ruckus, but that is just extraordinarily unlikely.

You could get a connecting flight, and drain it on the layover.

Ever heard of a car? Then when you stop , you just lock your valuables in the trunk.

Likely at Gold Coast June 1 - 6

No one is going to jack your comp on an airplane... If your that worried about it don't drink anything before or during the flight and you won't have to use the restroom

Pardon me for coming across as being paranoid, but I haven't flown solo in about thirty-five years. Plus, I hate flying so much due to motion sickness and claustrophobia that I have to medicate myself with dramamine, advil, and sudafed. Most of the flight I am going to be asleep, but once I wake up I usually need to go to the bathroom at least once.

It was actually my wife that suggested she fly in a little later for our next Vegas trip, although i did hint she would be bored as it would be a poker funded trip so poker playing would be priority. So i have 4-7days solo for poker, then she flys in and we see some shows and do some shopping and then head to Mexico from there. All the people asking about safety, common-sense goes along way. T

People are always looking forward on planes, so someone will be looking at your stuff the whole time and would notice if another person came and grabbed something. It would take huge cojones to try to steal a computer from someone else on a plane (unless you're in the last row or something).

My first trip to Vegas was solo for 9 days back in 2007. I was on a limited bankroll and stayed off strip at Arizona Charlies on Decatur playing their 4/8 Limit game with a half kill. Visited the strip mainly just to play some low stakes tournies at Sahara. My final night I played 1/2 NL at Fitzgeralds and crushed it. Hooked ever since.

Laugh all you want guys but I have funded the last 4 trips solely off of computers I steal on planes.

Your last sentence hit it on the head. When I fly, I always sit in the back row.

I guess you guys never saw that episode of CSI with Urkel.
