I was able to do the first part of my 5 day trip solo. Mini TR ahead--no detailed hands or nothin'. (Okay so it's not so mini after I had written it up.)

Day 1 I was able to fully enjoy my first WSOP experience as I got in at 8AM. I had a suite at the Rio all to myself. No complaints except that I somehow convinced myself to buy a bunch of bananas for 9.50... and well busted 320~ with 270 places paid. But it was all amazing. Seeing the banners, the empty tables, which filled with players within 5 minutes, and random poker pros walking around completed the experience.

Day 2 Again I just did my thing during the day. Played a deepstack, then played more craps. Met a Vegas local/WSOP participant and we tried to beat those table games together. (Which we did for a considerable amount of money. Thank you, shooter.) I then decided to degen even more, buying drinks at the bar until I decided I was getting bored, heading up to Rio's rooftop nightclub. I met some girls that were vacationing California. We did some dancing and I was going to take them down to the taxi line since they wanted to go home. Another girl somehow grabbed my attention while the ladies used the bathroom. She convinced me that I wasn't getting any from them, quite easily. I shouldn't have listened to her.

Day 3 I try to hit up the girls from the club. They're responsive. They let me know where they're going, but my friends are joining me for the second half of my trip. My friends? 2 are a couple, another 2 are a married couple, another 2 are sisters, and the last is the male half of a couple. (How'd I get myself into this?) I go from a suite to myself at the Rio, to two two-queen rooms at the Luxor. They're to arrive at 2:30. I decide to splurge. I schedule a 50min swedish and a 50min gentleman's facial, never having done either in my life. Then I head to the Luxor poker room to waste some time at their 1-2 tables. I've never seen such a soft game. Literally saw 3 players limp in w/ JJ. There was one guy who would raise to 30 whenever he had AK or overbet the pot whenever he had top two, yet was a calling station with TPNK. Later learn there's a toxic spill on I-15. Friends arriving late. Drop off key at the spa front desk. Facial was weird, but I've never felt my face so smooth. I'm glad I splurged. Friends arrived while I was at the spa. They're so excited to see me, yay. I wait two hours for everyone to get ready. (Argh, I could be gambling!) I convince them we should get something to eat... maybe something nice since we're in Vegas! We end up going to the food court. Half the group orders McD's... ugh. Now mind you for the last two hours I'm also asking where everyone wants to go. One of the sisters keeps yelling HAZE HAZE HAZE! I look it up on Yelp... (yeah don't want to go there, sorry). They finally decide on LAX, because it plays some hiphop. (I'm not so happy about that, but I oblige, knowing I can make the most of it.) There's some drama about having to pay to get in for guys. (No duh, sherlock. This is Vegas, spend some money!) I give up on the group and go play some craps by myself. The rest of the night gets better as half the group finds me and we just walk the strip. The girls I had met last night were unresponsive.

Day 4 I wake up first despite having gone to bed last. I decide on playing at the Bellagio to cross another "first" off my list. I see Matt M's name on the list for 5-10, but I've only got 2k in my pocket so I opt for 2-5 instead. Before I sit for 2-5, a new 5-10 table opens quickly. I tell the floor if there's an open seat I'll take it. I sit down with 1k, hoping to see the guy himself. He's a no show, but somehow I'm up 1300. I then run my kings into a lady's AK, too stubborn to lay them down after I see an ace on the flop. I leave +680 and decide to splurge some more. Head over to Yellowtail for a pretty expensive solo meal. Head back to the hotel as they tell me they're ready to head out for some partying. I wait another two hours, before they're ready for dinner. We go to Dick's Last Resort in Excalibur, which is a step up from last night's food court. Dinner was a blast with the group, but later there is more drama. Deciding I want nothing to do with drama, I round up some of the lighter hearted folks and we do a craps tour. Opting to stay for 3-shooters at all of the nearby MGM properties. Now that was fun.

Day 5 I gotta wake up early to catch my flight. I miss Sin City already...

tl;dr -- solo is fun. with others... well make sure they will be good company.

Heh, I live in the U.S. and I've never been to NYC. Don't want to ever go, either.

I just got back a few days ago from a solo trip from Ohio. I love it. Dinners are 1/2 the cost (or less --- drink and dessert with her meal again, damnit) and I can do what I want when I want. I can play poker for 13 hours straight and don't have to worry about entertaining the lady. Any man who has not done the trip solo should give it a shot.

Also, if you are a low-roller like me, I highly recommend Fremont Street. I stayed at the Plaza this time and loved it. Main St. Station breakfast buffet is $6.99. The Fremont is the same. And the Golden Nugget Grand events are a great value. I've never gotten that much play from a $125 tournament before.

I live less than 100 miles from Munich and never been to Oktoberfest and will probably never go. Guess that's kind of similar...

Oh, just got back from a 12 days solo trip and never got bored (and I get bored very easily!).

Bump. Going to Vegas solo in November from the 5th of November and coming back on the 18th of November. I am really looking forward to it. My friend is also going but we have separate rooms so I consider it solo however we'll spend some time together. He is a degening 7 Stars member, so I'm getting an awesome rate on my room. I'm using a reward ticket from Delta to get there so for airfare and accommodations it'll cost me a whoping $37.50 the whole time I'm there. I'll be at Harrah's. Like I said, we will spend some time together but I'll be going off and playing poker while he's degening it up at the craps tables too.

I have never been to Vegas in November before so what is there for me to do at that time of year, especially solo? Is it too cold to use the pools then? Anyone going to be around and want to grab a brew?

Too cold for the pools in November. What to do otherwise:

gamble
drink
hookers
blow

I've rarely done it any other way besides solo. I love getting to plan my own schedule and just having the time to myself. When people are with me, then I feel a bit more guilty about abandoning them for the poker room and tend to not play as much as I would like. I've never really felt unsafe on the strip at night, but am usually mid-strip where there are a lot more people. As others have said, just be smart. Don't find yourself in shady areas off-strip after hours and cab it if you need to get somewhere a ways away.
