Re: Ever Do The Vegas Poker Trip Solo?

As others have mentioned going solo has its perks, mainly being free to do whatever you want.

I took my first ever trip to Vegas last July with 2 other people and it was just too much trying to keep up with everyone's plans. Someone wanted to visit a certain casino, see a show, eat at a certain place, etc.. It seemed like everyone missed out on something on that trip. I personally didn't even have time to play a hand of poker on my first trip to Vegas!!!

About a week after getting back home I already had my 2nd trip booked for November, but this time I was going solo.. I had a much better time, playing lots of poker and playing in every room I wanted to visit.

As far as safety goes, I wouldn't worry. Just stick to places with lots of traffic during off hours and don't do anything stupid. Make friends with strangers and chat them up, but decline if they suddenly offer you a ride to your hotel or a line a blow. Know how much you can handle drinking and stuff like that. You will be fine. If I had to pick a spot to be alone at 3am walking down the street, I can't think of a much safer place than the strip.

Re: Ever Do The Vegas Poker Trip Solo?

I visited Vegas earlier this year solo. No problem whatsoever, lots of homeless people on the strip at night but they don't bother you if you don't bother them.
I even walked solo down Freemont Street 2.30 in the morning and waited for the bus at the bus stop south of Heartattack Grill place. That may be a littel too much to recommend but as said above, as long as you use your street-smartness nothing will happen...

All my friends leave on the 4th so I'm solo the 4th-9th at PH. Up for whatever.

Re: Ever Do The Vegas Poker Trip Solo?

I usually go with a group but always stay a few days longer by myself or get there earlier, so when friends are there. I just say I can do whatever y'all want to cause I have plenty of time on my own to do my thing. Vegas is probably the only vacation destination I can have a good time by myself or even have a better time by myself. Eating dinner alone kinda sucks, but my first trip I just ate at the bar at The Buffet in Bellagio, got to know the bartender well and enjoyed it. Its also great if you hook up with a girl or whatever, no judges or friends in your business

Re: Ever Do The Vegas Poker Trip Solo?

If you're there for 95% poker, then there is nothing wrong with "going solo" in terms of staying in the same room with someone. You can socialize enough at the tables and other places, and you probably would have friends in town for poker as well. If you're playing poker to make money, then who plays at their friends table unless it were a MTT

i'm down for a 'working holiday' 18th june til 9th july, looking to get an apartment for the majority of that time, anyone have any advice for a solo apartment that's close to the centre of the strip, < $200/week?

Re: Ever Do The Vegas Poker Trip Solo?

Tried to talk the wife into her and my daughter vacationing to Florida and me in Vegas but didnt fly. Would love a solo trip. Never get to play as much poker as I want because the wife ends up getting annoyed. Five hours tops. Tried getting friends to go with and she could hang with them but we have broke ass friends.

Re: Ever Do The Vegas Poker Trip Solo?

I love solo in Vegas. The only danger is to not play too much poker. (So the opposite of when i go with the wife!) Try not to play more than 8 hours a day and do some other fun stuff and you'll have a blast. Would advise going to gym in the mornings and always making time to have a nice meal. Its too easy to just eat at the poker tables or in the deli.
