Vegas is no more:

Yes, I'm aware you still get free drinks but now it will be based on amount played. GG Vegas.

This has been in all CET props for months now. It's not a big deal. For the players who GAMBLE absolutely nothing changes, except you may get quicker service at the bars since the bartenders no longer have to waste time haggling with the free-loaders.

If they carry this too far, they'll just be cutting off their nose to spite their face. The whole point of them getting the customers drunk is so they'll make bad decisions. The last thing they need is a casino full of sober people.

This is actually old news. I thought this thread was going to be about this happening on all the machines on the casino floor.

They prolly figured out that people who are playing for pennies to get free drinks won't make enough bad decisions later on anyway.

I don't live in Vegas and only go out there for the WSOP. If this has been happening for months, it's news to me and I haven't found any discussion of it on this forum.

It is just a matter of time before it spreads to every machine and table game. So if it has been going on for months, that's even more concerning because the inevitable spread throughout the casino is closer to a reality.

I doubt it will hit table games soon, since minimums are usually high enough to warrant for free drinks anyway.

Slots are a different issue. I am pretty sure casinos will stop offering free drinks to players who occupy a machine for hours while averaging a loss of less than ten bucks.

Old news, yes it is but it is a preview of what is to come. Resort fees went Vegas wide. Parking fees went Vegas wide. And this will probably go Vegas wide. I'm curious how they will enforce this in the poker room. How do you keep track of how much rake someone pays? Do you track how long they have been playing? Is there even a feeling that poker players are abusing the free drinks?

I remember I would go to Bill's with a few buddies and buy in for $20 and just order a bunch of drinks with my friends and get drunk. I would then just play AK or big pairs and just raise/shove and usually would come out ahead (although I didn't keep stats on this). Other than that, I don't know of people abusing the free drink policy at the poker tables other than getting free drinks for the 2 friends sitting behind them who are just watching.

It's either going to be based on playing time, e.g. one free drink per hour, or on status or they might just stop serving free drinks in the poker room. If I had to take a guess, I'd pick the last option, maybe with an exception for Diamond+ players.

If I'm not wrong, I was at Palazzo with some out of town friends on a weekday, and they don't give drinks to "friends standing behind" in TABLE GAMES. Floor supervisors gave drink vouchers.

I don't drink while playing poker and I am diamond but I would HATE this policy as this would make the games much worse.

It was just last year I think I was sitting in a Strip casino at a penny slot just to rest my back and a cocktail waitress offered a drink.

You'll just have to order drinks for them.

When I play less than half the table has a drink, and I probably average less than one every two hours, including waters. The casinos are probably not worried about poker players drinking too much.

Yeah, as in really old. I don't ever remember a time when you could just sit a bar and order free drinks without putting money in a VP machine. The only difference now is that the machine tracks your play rather than the bartender.

But even this "new" development isn't that new. When I was in Vegas last July, I met up with a friend at Caesar's who wanted to play VP as we talked. We put c-notes in our respective machines and were playing max coin, but we still had a problem with getting drinks because apparently we were talking too much and not playing fast enough. When we tried to order another round, the bartender told us that our lights had turned red and he had to wait for the machine's light to turn green again before he could do so.

I think that's still possible right now, I've never seen a waitress check if I was really playing or not. But I am pretty sure that's going to end in the not too distant future.

But nickel and dime gamblers don't have anything on them anyway - some guy with $200 in his pocket eats up the house edge if he gets $30 free drinks.

Casinos don't want small timers around unless they are paying for room, food and drink.

Why do new members always come in with such an entitled rude attitude? He edited your condescending remark because it's nice to have grown up discussions from time to time without unnecessary drama.

In my experience, drunk players are way better for the game than players high on weed. I am also not sure how other players react when tables are shorthanded more often because people are outside to smoke pot. That usually takes longer and is more of a group thing than a cigarette break.

On the other hand, if they would let players do coke at the table..

This doesn't change anything. You always had to play to get a drink. People that don't understand this react idiotically. If you started out betting 5 credits on $0.25 then bust down to 1 quarter the bartender would tell you to up your bet to get more comped drinks or else you would have to pay for them. Been like this since the beginning. You might get 1 comped drink for buying in for $20 but you wouldn't get anymore.

There has never been anywhere in the world that just gives things away for no reason, and in my experience the person who wants comped drinks don't even gamble anyways. So there is no reason to give it away for free because "they might gamble," because they do not. The hotels know this. The people who are there to gamble don't complain ever about getting their drinks, only the person trying to scam the system does and it never works. They're idiots.

Source: I am a bartender at a major strip hotel for 7 years now.
