Dealer paid me when they shouldn't have

So on my trip to Vegas I was playing blackjack and I was way stuck and bet 225 dollars on a hand. I had 16 against a dealer 5. She flips over a 7 and then pulls a 9 and I'm like **** **** I hate my life. But then she pays me 225 dollars. Since I was super stick I didn't say anything and eventually lost it anyway but in this case would you tell the dealer of the error or not?

Option A: You're scum. Karma will bite you in the arse.
Option B: Plead ignorance. It's not your job to make sure the dealer is doing his job. If they didn't notice, you didn't notice.

I'm 50/50 on both options.

It doesn't matter in the scheme of things as you lost it back anyway.

It was just weird bc we knew security was watching bc they called down and told someone who wasn't playing they couldn't sit at the table. So I'm surprised they caught that but missed what amounted to a 450 dollar swing

Re: Dealer paid me when they shouldn't have

Actually had a dealer who kept doing this to me. She was usually a floor and hadn't dealt in awhile. It happened 3 times. I kept alerting her to it and she would call the floor over to take the money. Talked to her about it. She mentions it happens from time to time and security definitely catches it (probably occasionally they miss one) but they don't come take the money from the player. The dealer pays for it (Much better for business than to upset the player who might have thought they won.) I was only betting 25 a hand so don't know if it is different if someone is betting a lot of money.

if you are still there 15-20 mins later, they will usually have called down by then and will reverse the decision

The idea that security catches a majority of these mispays is crap.

I've had at least 6 push instead of loss, pay instead of push, pay instead of loss type hands for > $100 and not once have any of them been fixed due to a surveillance call.

Texas Hold'em Bonus at Crown in Australia is probably actually beatable if you don't play the bonus bets simply because the dealers make an average of maybe 3 or 4 units errors an hour in your favour most hours at 30 hands/hr. I've personally witnessed a ridiculous amount of losing bets paid/pushes that should be losses/etc and they make a lot of mistakes against you as well, you can just pick and choose when to correct them.

If the casino doesnt train its dealers properly its their fault not yours. They wouldn't hunt you down to give you your money back if the mistake was made the other way and you left without noticing, so why should you do that for them?

Re: Dealer paid me when they shouldn't have

I was sitting at one of the texas holdem carnival game at foxwoods just being drunk after a good poker night and the guy to my right who is playing like 450 a hand puts down his standard 75 bet on the "bonus bet".

Point is he hits his bonus which pays say 10:1 and the dealer mistakenly pays him double around $1500. The pit boss sees this and an argument ensues between him and the player.

Sure enough 20min later, after they "reviewed the tapes" they call down and take back the overpayment out of the guys stack. Needless to say he was pissed.

These mistakes help make up the house edge, in my opinion.

In fact, every time I get a blackjack I leave my original bet out because 1/30 times I'll get paid a second time if the dealer bust.

Dealer error in your favor, collect $200

I've never been asked for it back, but if I was I'd give it back no fuss.

When I clicked on the thread, I had assumed this happened at the poker table. Since it happened in the pit, however, take the gift and don't feel bad about it ainec.

Re: Dealer paid me when they shouldn't have

I don't want to seem like a "holier than thou" type, but I used to play a great deal of bj, and whenever that type of situation happened, I corrected the dealer rather than steal the money. And it is stealing, regardless of how anyone wants to justify it. I just value my own sense of integrity more than a few hundred or thousand dollars.

Plus, dealers are working stiffs like everyone else, I don't want want them to possibly lose a significant portion of a day's or week's income because they made an honest mistake, I knew it, and took the money anyway.

I don't buy the "casinos make a lot of money, so if you take something you're not entitled to, it's OK" theory. Walmart makes a lot of money too, but I don't go in there and take what I want for free. (though a hell of a lot of people try to).

Since I play a lot of blackjack, the floors know that I know what I'm doing. So if they catch a mistake, it would hardly be credible for me to say "oh, I didn't see that". We both know I'd be lying.

But as I said, everyone gets to decide what level of integrity they want to have, and what level they are comfortable with. Your character is how you act when you know you won't get caught.
