Sorry for the weak updates. This just isn't as fun by myself; hopefully the excitement of The Main will energize me soon.

I had to work for a while today, so after that and a nap, I played some 1/2 at Bally's. Made a hundo, then headed to South Point to meet my buddies at the Motiv booth at the USBC Nationals (bowling) to pick up some swag.



A buddy of mine here owns an awesomely nerderific gaming store called Darkside Games...will head over there in a bit to check it out. There's a midnight Magic tourney going on, so they'll be open. Pics later.

Dave - it's brilliant that you have been able to enter the main and I remember you saying a couple of years back how awesome Mrs DDT was. Guess this proves it again.

I hope the experience is fantastic and I wish you the best of rungood mate. In fact, I'm more than happy to donate all of my 2017 rungood to you in this event.

In the unlikely case that you don't win it, don't be disappointed. Just remind yourself that you've had the opportunity to play in the greatest single poker tournament in the world and been able to scribble a tick on that bucket list.

In 2 1/2 hours, I'll be sitting in a chair, waiting for some poker celebrity to say "gentleman, start your engines," or whatever it is they say. At that moment, I will cease being a poker player who has never played in The Main Event. It is entirely possible, likely really, that I have paid $10,000 dollars, for what a reasonable person could fairly describe as 'nothing.'

But, we don't do such things for the percentages, do we? By 'we' I mean recreational players who take such shots at Big Things, knowing full well that our place in the food chain is "prize fund," but we try just the same. 'We' are people who know the odds, but choose to do anyway. Do 'we' expect victory? No, we don't. We jump in, clear-eyed and enthusiastic, in the face of imminent demise for many reasons, none of which withstand any amount of objective scrutiny, but all of which matter deeply on some level, and all of which can be distilled to a tired, but so, so wonderfully perfect cliché.

Made it to the spot...

I'm sitting on a bench in the hallway that leads to the Amazon Room, relaxing and waiting to take my seat. There's a camera crew set up facing the building entrance, getting footage of the lambs to the slaughter.

The hall is mostly quiet, except for a fluffer, who keeps yelling "DAY 1? COME ON! DAY 1? WHERE'S THE EXCITEMENT?"

It's difficult to describe in a way that conveys how irritating this guy is, but trust me. Yikes.

In fact, when I walk by in a bit I think I'll say "lambs to the slaughter" just to see if I can get on TV.

First break, so far so good. The ME starts at a 50k stack at 75/150, with level 2 going to 150/300. I finished L1 at a little over 60k.

My table is okish, but the 2 tougher spots are to my immediate left.

Just had 69hh on bb, ep raises, 2 callers, I call. Flop os 578hhh. This is a favorable flop for my hand. I check, ep bets, mp calls, I call.

The turn is a brick, ep checks, mp bets pretty big, I tank call, ep calls. River is the 8d, I check, ep bets 1/3 pot, mp tank folds what turns out to be the 2nd nut flush. Ep has about 22k behind after betting 11k. I jam obv, he folds fives full face up.

I've got a bit over 95k near the end on level 2. So far so good.

I'm off to eat a bowl of pho sitting right at 100k. Long, long, long way to go, but hangin' in there.
