Yea. What's the question?

I like "owning" certain information, and having the ability to keep it private and control access to it, versus storing it in the cloud, which you neither control nor own, and which certainly is not private.

Google drive (or it's equivalent) is great & amazing for tons of stuff, and I use it extensively; but not for everything.

Do I use or need a thumb drive on my every day? Absolutely not. But I wear a man-bag, and a thumb drive takes up very little space and weighs nothing (compared to a single stack Glock 9 w/ laser site at least) so there's no reason not to have it with me.

Secondly, and more importantly, wtf do you need a dozen keys for? If I added up all the houses, condos, offices, safe deposit boxes, and other things that I needed keys for over the past decade, the cumulative total still wouldn't be more than 12. And you're saying that you have to be prepared to lock and/or unlock 12 different items on any one day?
Condo: 1 key
Common area key: 1 key
Office condo: 1 key + common area Key 1 key = 2 keys
Retail store: 2 keys
Retail safe: 2 keys
siblings house: 1 key
Parent's House: 1 key
Storage locker: 1 key
Safety deposit boxes: 2 keys
Bike lock key - 1 key
Rental property-1 key
Misc random keys that I have no idea what they unlock, but I'm afraid to throw away in case one day I suddenly need them: maybe 3 or 4?

Pride,

Why do you carry it with you all the time?

I don't need to, but it's super-small & weighs virtually nothing, so most of the time it's simply a matter of laziness on my part. I'm taking it out this morning so stop giving me **** about it. ;-)

I'll accept that carrying $10-$15K through airport security on the way to Vegas may not gain a second glance from TSA, but civil asset forfeiture was the first thing I thought about when I read OP's thread title.

As the good doctor alluded to, if you got pulled over for speeding by a cop and they found that amount of cash on you, whether or not they'd take it & make you fight to get it back is debatable, but I damn sure bet at the very least they'd make you answer a lot of questions and your car would get a thorough look-see.

With the exception of the thumb drive, the small bottle of medical-grade hand sanitizer (which I understand you may feel is unnecessary, other disgusting neanderthals do as well), and the few keys that look important but that I don't remember what they unlock, what else on the list of things I carry with me is in your opinion "unnecessary" or fits into the "pile of crap" category???

Oh, and I sometimes add to my list:
Gum
Very small pill box or 3" ziplock bag with half dozen advil or tylenol, couple prilosec (acid reflux pills; I don't get heart burn/acid reflux very often, but when I do, it sucks if I don't any prilosec on me) and depending upon the current condition of my dating life, possibly a viagra or two (no, I don't "need" it, but I enjoy hittin' it like I'm 20 again)
Condoms
small one hitter with just enough supply to get me through weekend (& often some extra to share) if for whatever reason I'm not vapping.
On the weekends depending upon what I'm doing & where I'm going, I sometimes carry a decent-sized flask filled with whatever. If I'm at an overpriced club or stadium venue where they gouge on drink prices, I'm not above going to the restroom and knocking back a shot or two.

Again, while I don't mean to derail thread, little if anything that I carry with me do I consider "unnecessary" or "excessive", and I don't know of any other reasonably acceptable option other than to wear a man-bag.

Additionally, a man-bag is a pretty good option for concealed carry. Admittedly not as good a solution as wearing on your hip if you're concerned about ability to quick-draw (not a major concern of mine) but much MUCH more comfortable and discreet.

Generally-speaking I'm NOT a fan of over-priced designer brands (especially when they slap the brand logo all over the product (think Coach, Channel, Gucci, etc.) but this man-bag by Louis Vuitton is the near-perfect size for me, doesn't have their logo all over it & is fairly masculine-looking, so when I saw a seemingly well-made counterfeit version of it for sale in Istanbul I snap-bought it for $125 (negotiated down from $350 'cause Momma didn't raise no fool!):

I also own and recommend this bag (just wish they offered it in black):

Seems like a negative freeroll to walk around with so much cash.

The average tourist walking around with $5k on their person does walk around with $5k on their person. Otherwise, there's simply no chance that's true.

It may be true if there are a significant number of high outliers. If 1 in 200 people walk around with $1,000,000 and the other 199 walk around with $0, the average is $5,000.

To be clear, I don't think that's true either, but if it were then I'd advocate looking at the median rather than the average.

Ding ding. I'd be stunned if the 90th percentile were above $5000, let alone the median.

To answer the OP's original Q, I've never had one issue carrying cash through TSA on either end. If you're coming back on an international flight you might face a different circumstance but going to/from Vegas - not an issue.

As far as a bag like that goes, I always felt it just added a set of potential eyes to me walking around late at night and I didnt like/want the extra attention so I ditched mine. Big fan of Ex Officio type travel shorts with a couple extra pockets - more than enough room without standing out.

In an effort to slim down on wallet size too, I went to a TGT slim wallet for just a few cards/ID. Along with cash and that wallet I carry my phone, a small Anker battery and tiny sanitizer.

if you can't stuff all your shyt into your pockets (including cash) you have too much shyt.

I ride a motorcycle to Vegas and I've learned to travel light. I have gone to Walmart to buy fresh clothes rather than pack a bunch of stuff.

I've traveled with 70k or so in cash in my backpack through LAS. I've also taken a $14 uber to BoA where they're used to idiots asking for 30k at 9 am on a Saturday morning (god bless em being open on Saturdays)

So that number probably drops to significantly less than $500 if you add in the non-gambling convention guests and minors?

In other parts of the world, people think you are poor if you travel with less than 3 big suitcases. That's the reason why it looks like everybody flying in from Dubai needs their own baggage cart. In other words, people are different and there's no right or wrong.

How about getting AMEX travelers cheques?

They come in a variety of amounts. They work like cash at the cage. If lost or stolen, they are replaced if you call immediately.

My credit union used to issue them without a surcharge.

I do the same except to avoid doing laundry.
