I'm moving to Las Vegas and I play 1/3 & 2/5 NLH and PLO. How much should I have in my bankroll before moving to play full time?

I predict you will receive responses in the 4.5-5K range.

20k is a good start after moving expenses. Average in here before attempt is ~3.5k

I should have included in first post: I play mostly 2/5 NLH and 1/3 PLO, but I max buy- typically 200 bbs

the two levels you are talking about OP are COMPLETELY different... 2/5 is a 3x+ buy in of a 1/3 table.

if you are playing 1/3... you are going to need somewhere around 10k to play very comfortably. you can probably get by with 5k-7.5k(7.5 is 25x)

2/5 is another ball game. you should have about 25k to play well... though you can probably get by with 20k.

anyway you look at it you should have about 25x to play correctly. and that is on the very thin side of things, as some suggest 30-50 BI's.

I play the exact same stakes you do, and I showed up to town with a bit over 12k. I max buy as well, and I feel that's a decent number.

That changes everything then. $4000-5000, maybe $4500.

Thanks for the responses- I was thinking the avg response would be closer to 30-40k. My goal was to have $50k before going... Thanks for your input.

All you need is one buy in and rungood. This is obvious.

ill never go broke off $2000 grinding $50 buyins at hooters during aces cracked. people with tiny bankrolls have no business buying in for the max

that being said, i dont feel like i have enough to play a normal $1-2 $100 buyin game where there is NO aces cracked promo. i will though, when i hit $4000, that should be enough to play for life, take out $300 a week to live on, and never go broke.

but to be honest the best way to grind up a low roll is to just play double or nothing online sngs til u grind up $5000 plus

Based on the levels you'll be playing, and your skill levels, you'll need EXACTLY $13,476.83. Not a penny more, or less. This is an offical number.

However I can't give you the break-down for free, for detailed fund distribution amounts I'll have to charge you a small managment fee, kindly let me know when you wanna start and I'll have someone from accounting send the paper work so you can make direct deposits into my account.

When you bring PLO into the picture you are talking a completely different story. If you are even thinking about PLO right now you will prolly end up there.

If your going to try to grind out 2/5 NL then I'd start with 8K (not living expenses)

PLO I'd say 6-8k 1/2 and 20K 2/5

For 2-5, even 8k isn't that great, because you will be buying in for about 800 to 1000 to play properly.

To play good poker, you can't be afraid to lose the money... Not sure if OP can have that mentality if 12.5% of his roll is on the table.

At whatever game you play, at most, you should only risk 5% of your roll each day. As your roll grows, that number should get lowrr

I wouldn't know what that is like... I typically have 50% of my roll in any given game. No wonder I've never gotten past the 10.20 level.

NOT INCLUDING atleast 2 months of living expenses (rent/food/groceries)

id say 7-10k is the best bet. espec with how deep 2-5plo can play

To do it right I think you want 6 months living expenses minimum and $15,000 bankroll minimum. Not to say you can't succeed starting with less but if you do it, do it right and make sure you can still have peace of mind if you go on a $2000 downswing or more early.

Waiting and saving an extra 5k to make your overall risk of ruin much lower is far easier than taking a shot, failing, and having to start from scratch.
