I used to just carry my cash in my pocket through airport security without problem. It doesn't get picked up by the metal detector and I never get checked so it was no problem. Now, with the new x-ray scanners that pick up everything in your pockets, I wonder how people will be taking lots of cash into and out of Vegas with them?

Put it in your bag? It comes up on the x-ray machine.

Put it in your pocket? It comes up on the head to toe x-ray machine.

Refuse the x-ray and do a pat down? They will find the huge wad of $100's in you.

Is it only a problem if its over $10K? Do you need to declare on domestic flights? Will it get seized if they suspect your some drug dealer or something?

If it's domestic you can carry as much as you want legally without declaring it. International you have to declare anything over 10k. Just tell the truth and you'll be fine.

When I went to LV from Baltimore this summer for the WSOP, I had 20k spread out in different pockets of my cargo shorts I was wearing.

I was selected to go through one of the new machines and they made me take all the cash out and hold it in my hands with my arms over my head. I told the security guard I wasn't comfortable doing that because I had a lot of cash on me and I didn't want "shady" characters knowing it. She told me to do it anyway and when I kept pulling mini bricks out of my pockets, she finally let me hold the money against my body and they just ran the wand over me after I was done in the machine.

No one asked a single question as to why I had that much money on me. They didn't even know I was going to Vegas. I think so long as you aren't a shade ball, you'll be fine.

Shade balls itt.

But srsly, I went through the airport w a friend who had 70k in his backpack leaving Vegas, and all they said to him was "good trip, eh? " and let him be on his way. U shouldn't have a problem.

this is true. The more "normal" you look the better. Some of the more vigilante agents probably target people that don't look like they could come up with that much cash legitimately and assume you are a drug dealer.

Because of this I would say you should make sure you wear something that doesn't have a drug smell or residue on it in case they bring the dogs into the picture.

If that does happen, you will get your money back, but it will take awhile.

Cheers. No longer concerned. I did one of those machines before with holding everything over my head and not looking forward to doing that with $20K in an airport. I just don't think it's wise to have everyone knowing I got $20K on me.

Anyway, I'll just put it in my carry-on bag or will put it in an envelope so no one sees its cash or how much exactly. I like carrying my bricks in Ziplock Snack Bags. They are the perfect size of bills and you can squeeze the air out of them and they zip shut. I can easily get $10K-$15K in one bag and they take up less space than an envelope due to the squeeze shut factor. Plus it keeps your hands clean from handing your bricks.

Def the best way is in a clear zip-lock. Keeps the money safe and dry. Now if you are using gallon size + freezer bags then you are pretty baller. Quart size...ehhh.

The x-ray person can see the money in your bag, maybe just not how much. The bills will be dense and the security strips will show. Not as incognito as when you could carry it in your pockets.

Should be a sticky thread on this subject, bring as much cash as you want with you on a domestic flight, on an international flight just declare it and you fill be fine.

Just out of curiosity, if you have over 10k on an international flight, do you have to declare just so they know you have over 10k, or do you have to pay taxes or fees of some sort on it?

It's just for information. They do not take any of the money. There are no fees just for traveling over the border.
