You get Pearl card with 50 hours of poker. It's only automatic if it's all played in the same room, but if you have it combined you might be able to get it if you ask someone at a room to check on it.

No more free parking with local ID at MGM properties since December. Locals can still park at CET properties and walk across the street though.

75 hours of poker gets Pearl, not 50 unless they changed it. 150 hours for gold.

I thought it was 50 to begin with but could have remembered wrong. 150 is correct for gold AFAIK.

I am surprised Planet Hollywood still has Free parking. That garage must be slammed all the time.

They love the traffic it brings through the mall, even if they are not shopping. Gives the mall the appearance of a busier hip place. Plus, they wouldn't want to turn away any potential customers just going to the mall even just to browse.

The only reasonable way to get to the Strip or any other hotel from that garage is to schlep half a mile through the mall. Also, the only reasonable place to park for people going to the mall is that garage. The mall would be committing business suicide if they charged to park.

Yeah a lot of people are too lazy to walk and will just pay the fee somewhere else and really not care that much.

Haven't parked there in months though so I don't know how much busier it got.

I think all malls in heart of a "downtown city" charge to park. At least where I come from and doesn't kill any business.

Downtowns are way more condensed then Vegas and get most of their business from the 10s of thousands of people that live and work within walking distance. Our downtown mall used to charge for parking until it almost put them out of business when the suburban migration happened in the 80s and 90s. What saved them is the fact that you can validate your parking to free with something as little as just purchasing a soda or something.

Not as condensed as your usual downtowns. Plus, there are many more options to shop in Vegas. Every casino has a mall these days. Please don’t confuse the strip with downtown Kansas City.

You can't really compare a couple luxury designer shops at Bellagio to a mall like the Miracle Mile Shops where you have convenience stores and Subway. Average sales receipt might be around $10 at Miracle Mile and above $1000 at Bellagio or Crystals

Not sure if downtown KC is a good example. I am no expert on KC history, but apparently 10 years ago nobody lived downtown. Today, there are multiple construction sites for new luxury apartments/condos in downtown and rents in the Westport/Country Club Plaza area are exploding.

Yes, that's very relevant because Miracle Mile is a mall in the heart of a "downtown city".

Isn't that what you said about everyone else who charges to park?

This is a super difficult question to answer.

It's not simple at all to estimate what effect these things have. In some places, there are unique things that make demand inelastic - like if every parking space around the Empire State Building cost $100, you're not going to go find a different Empire State Building. In other places, like a suburban Target, if you tried to charge that same amount you'd have a pretty empty parking lot.

Sure, you can say charging for parking doesn't COMPLETELY kill business. But maybe business would be better if you didn't charge for parking. And the most complex scenario: maybe business would be better, but you're actually making more money from parking than you lose in business!

Retail adds another level of complexity. Retail is in a long term decline, if you charge for parking but only lose as much business as people who don't charge for parking, you win. If you lose B&M business but people just order your product off the website anyway, you win.

It's way too simplistic to either say "well look at X, it worked there" or "well look at Y, it failed there."

Caesars Entertainment to start charging locals for parking at seven properties, Nov. 2

http://news3lv.com/news/local/caesar...operties-nov-2

"Parking will remain free at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino and for all Total Rewards loyalty members rated Platinum and above. Parking at Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino will also remain free, for the time being."

The good thing is it stays free at places where you can easily get to their other properties, either by foot or shuttle.

I knew this was coming and it doesn't effect me since myself and mrsducks both have diamond, but still annoying that CET doesn't give a longer than 1 week heads up on this announcement.

They knew this was coming for months. Why not announce it 1 month+ out? This is exactly what happened with the diamond 25K point lounge situation. They wait till the last minute and offer no communication in advance and just screw over their customers.

Now that they're freshly out of bankruptcy they want to see how much they can get away with before they go bankrupt again lol.

I have no issue with them charging for parking if everyone else does and i have no issue of them addressing the problem of overcrowded diamond lounges but you need to do it fairly. If you have a policy of 15K earned in 2017 for diamond lounge access in 2017 and 2018, you need to give a fair heads up to any policy changes. You make an announcement now saying that you need to earn 25K in 2018 for diamond lounge access in 2018 and 2019 while holding up the agreement for 2017 earners to give them lounge access in 2018.

The problem is that they have a clause in their contract that they can change the rules at their discretion and legally they are covered but they lose loyalty and the trust of their customers. the problem is that they only lose customers that don't earn 25K and they don't care about those customers right now so there is nothing for those customers to do. They can quick CET and play at MGM but CET just doesn't care to be honest.

Will they go bankrupt again? We'll see.
