I'm not really noticing a difference tonight. Not a big weekend and it's still fairly busy which is what I'd expect for a Saturday night.

Do. people really care about parking fees when going to buy ridiculously overpriced stuff at the Forum Shops?

Maybe some do, but OTOH others might feel the need to buy something to not have paid parking fees for nothing.

But in general I'd think people shop on the strip because they don't care about money or because they don't have a car to drive somewhere else?

Except for Fashion Show Mall, but I don't think they charge for parking?

Tourists shop on the strip, same people that are paying for hotel parking. Hard to imagine that locals are making a trip just to go to Forum Shops.

I'm sure I've said it earlier, but I'll reiterate: when the corporations did the calculus on this, I'm sure they considered that losing locals is just collateral damage, and minimal at that. The VAST majority of these fees are targeted straight to drive-in tourists from CA and AZ.

Was at flamingo last Fri and parking was still free, even though I think the website said they're charging, but maybe it said just valet, the garage was packed late afternoon

Yeah, I think they do. Based on how many people walk through there, I think they consider it a mall. Let's go to the mall, cruise through, window shop, look at the fish next to Cheesecake Factory, maybe have lunch there, gawk at Pete Rose, etc, etc.

Then bam, get hit with a parking charge.

How much profit do you think those people generate? Seems like a no-brainer to institute parking fees if that is the profile of the people that aren't willing to pay it.

Locals who make the casinos good profits either have status so they get free parking or don't care about paying $15 to park for a show that costs $125+ per ticket or dinner that costs $150+ per couple.

Tourists who want to come to Vegas will just pay because $15 a day will not change their entire trip plans to go somewhere else after paying for flight, hotel, food, and gambling away money as well.

If 1 casino charges parking, people who care about the money MIGHT park somewhere else but if everyone charges, people will just pay. Why? Because that is what happened with resort fees and this is the same thing.

Do I like it? No but I have status from poker for both MGM and Caesars so it doesn't affect me.

It really is a smart way to keep cheapos (like me to be honest) out of the casinos. More square feet for people who don't mind spending money.

Not wanting to pay outrageous prices for parking doesn't mean you're a cheapskate. It means you have sense enough not to be ripped off.

If more people would vote with a sense of moral outrage, then perhaps the powers that be would get the message.

But then again when they can charge conventioneers $1000 a night for a room and get away with it, then they begin to think that they're omnipotent.

As far as I'm concerned, people who come to Vegas and stay in strip hotels are just suckers and morons.

I guess the casinos know their clientele well.

In a not too distant future, the Strip might be like Disneyland where people have to pay admission to enter if they don't stay in one of the hotels.

Do you get free tickets to Disneyland of you stay at one of their hotels? Or is the price inflated to such a degree that you are pretty much paying for the tickets on top of a reasonable hotel charge? Is there a resort fee ?

No clue about resort fees

Vacation packages include hotel plus theme park admission. Based on the price, I'd say you are paying for admission on top of a reasonable hotel price.

Was recently looking into Disney World prices because I am considering their marathon in January. Pretty sure as far as vacation packages go, there's not a big difference between Disney Land and Disney World.

PAID PARKING'S EFFECT, OR EVENTUAL EFFECT, ON POKER GAMES

What do you guys think it's going to be, if any?

Some players won't make that final short buy for their case money because they need to pay for parking.

Someone on Reddit just posted that their company was hired to start a parking validation process for the shops at Fashion Show Mall. Another one bites the dust.

More tourists will stay home, or go to cities with poker rooms that don't charge for parking. The type pf player you want to see the most, the infrequent player that doesn't have a high player's card status, will play elsewhere.

Nope, validation is different. They aren't looking for money, they just don't want their garage overrun by casino visitors.

The player you want to see the most is someone who's going to look at a $20 parking charge and decide to play elsewhere?

Over the people who will look at the parking charge and think, pfft, that's a small fraction of what I intend to drink and donk away at the tables tonight?

You want to see both. Unfortunately the latter will donk away most of their money in the pits.

The reality is that the casinos are in the position where they can discourage business from the customers they don't want to see. Unfortunately, many of them are us.

Yup, and it's working. When my Diamond expires, it's one trip a year for WSOP and that's it.

The thing is, it's not idiots blowing off 5 grand in Da Club or $50 a hand blackjack that built those monstrosities, it's the quarter and dollar slot players.

Or in Aria's case... Dubai.

I'm already getting desensitized to parking rates to be honest. Hotel in December was 40 dollars a day, office parking for a meeting on Thursday was 35 dollars for 4 hours. Doctors appointment? 12 dollars to valet. Self park? Not an option in the area.

lol, anybody get a sense that Uber is behind the scenes pushing this fad of charging for parking on the Strip? I would not be surprised.
