Does anybody know if you can stay in Strip casinos with road bicycle? I would love to take my bike to LV and do some cycling around.

There are bicycle racks in at least some places.

At the end of your trip, just leave it at the South Point bike rack and augie will claim it.

Oh god. Here we go again. Was that first bike ever claimed? Did it ever exist? lol

it will be no problem to have your bike in your room from my experience-

that being said are you going to have any way to get away from the strip area except your bike?

I ask because the strip is really not a bike friendly place. There are some cool rides outside of town, but quite frankly even the most street hardened, aggressive, roadie will not enjoy the ride from the strip to any of the good rides. If your a bike messenger in NYC, you might think its not a big deal, but otherwise, your better off throwing your rig on the rack and heading out to Summerlin, or south to Henderson.

There is a pretty cool site: bikinglasvegas.org that can hook you up with lots of good rides and if you insist, at least help you pick the best route from the strip to the outer areas of the valley like Red Rocks in Summerlin and the River Mountain loop in Henderson

good luck

If your plan is to drive and then bike, that's fine. If your plan is to bike from the strip to anywhere that's a nice ride (say, Red Rock), you're looking at 10-15 miles from the strip while basically on a freeway. The east/west roads are wide, straight and often have a long distance between stoplights. It's not uncommon for traffic to be 50mph+, and you'll be sharing the road with all those psychopaths. I'm a road biker myself and the thought of riding in Vegas gives me hives.

Thanks eco74 and IAMthepokerhack for the replies. I do plan on renting a car also so will be able drive to certain spots and ride from there. I will also be looking at the cycling forums and I am planning on joining some group rides. Glad to hear some poker players cycle also not just golf

It really depends on what time of day you're talking about. I've done a lot of walking at 7 a.m. on roads leading away from the strip and they have had very little traffic. I believe riding a road bike on Flamingo either east or west at 7 a.m. would be completely doable without a whole lot of traffic. There is a 30 mile trail that goes around the mountain out in Henderson. It's paved all the way and is in the Foothills area of Henderson you can see it on Google Maps.

Yes it's called the River Mountain loop and it's already been mentioned itt

So just asking-what will flamingo be like when you return from a 4 hour ride to do the RM loop? And how will you feel about that at then end of your loop?

He could just Uber it back. That's going to be cheaper than paying for parking, not speaking of fees to rent the car. If you decide on getting a car, I would leave the bike in there overnight. That's way more convenient than taking it up to your room. If you are worried somebody will break into the car to steal the bike, just take off the wheels and cover the frame with a blanket. Still more convenient than taking it with you.

I'm surprised people think strip hotels are going to have no problem with you dragging a bike up to your room. Especially considering most hotels you have to go through the casino to get to the elevators.

I'm pretty sure security is going to tell you to gtfo

Do you really think anyone cares if you are dragging a large suitcase or something like that?

Just don't ride it down the hall or anything stupid like that.

FWIW, I just assumed OPs bike was in a bag/case. At least that's the way you're supposed to take it on an airplane.

I drug one of those things through Luxor once.

OP, for my money you should head out by Red Rock if you're looking for a good ride. Or the roads around Lake Mead, but thats a bit further out of the way

this is pretty bad advice, and the question was never about cost-it is about rides.

madlex, do you ride? the reason I ask is: if so, among the group you ride with, how many would leave one of their most prized possessions (their rig) in a public parking garage? (covered by a blanket or not-Im not leaving any of my bikes anywhere where they are pretty easy to steal)

Its not a question of convenience-its about making sure your ride is safe.

As far as taking the bike to your room, it will not be a problem in most properties, and if problems arise a smart guest will be calm and explain the value of said possession (probably 3.5k at least-top end MB's or RB's will run north of 7k) finishing with a $20 handshake. Problem solved.

I do bike and leave stuff more expensive and easier to steal than my bike in the car. I even leave the bike assembled in the back of our SUV, still meets the minimum requirement of my insurance.

They don't seem to have a problem with people dragging half-conscious people through the casino, why would a bicycle bother them?
