I don't mind paying for really good food. I'm used to paying NYC prices and frequent Nobu and Morimoto. The reason I'm bummed about the apparent decline of Hyakumi is that I thought I'd discovered a jewel in the rough. When I say it was exceptional, I wasn't kidding. That's why I was so blown away, because it was this little dump of a sushi bar at an apparently mediocre restaurant, and it was a revelation. C'est la vie. I'll hit some of the others. Thanks for the recommendations.

Yes.. most of this is still very relevant. Not sure about openings.. but all of the main ones mentioned that people love are still open. Nobu, Naked Fish, Koi, Sen of Japan, Okada.. etc. To be honest, all of these are far better than your avg US sushi place anyway.. So unless you're from the coast and have a hole-in-the-wall place that is super fresh... you're probably having a very good experience.

i don't know about "the decline," i've only eaten there twice and it was probably around the time that you ate there. it's never been on the same level of those high end places to begin with. as long as you don't mind the bill, the high end places will make you forget all about hyakumi

Re: best sushi in vegas, u tell me!
i've eaten at kobe sushi (on s.rainbow) ~5x in the last couple weeks. half off (or all you can eat) every day >5pm and all day sat/sun.
definitely good quality for very reasonable price. 5 good rolls for <$30.

a good all u can eat place is Yama on paradise and flamingo. Its prepared, and you order off cards. A buffet style sushi place would be pretty gross. Im pretty sure they have nigiri and rolls.
Maybe a good option for you, because in addition to "standard" sushi, they have a lot of fusion rolls as well, so perhaps more appealing to your GF as a sushi tyro.

Worst sushi I've had in Vegas. No redeeming quality.

Re: best sushi in vegas, u tell me!
meh. here is the location. about 15 miles roundtrip from the strip. i'd rent a car, but that could just be me.
also +1 on Ra being bad. always found it too gimicky. no reason to eat there considering your proximity to so many other great places.
