Hey guys,

I am currently a junior School of Management student at the University at Buffalo. Im on my way to get a business management degree with a dual concentration in marketing and finance.

I really want to do something in Vegas this Summer. I was so close to going to UNLV but didnt have the balls to go all the way across the country for college (from Rochester, NY)..

If anybody has any insight on what I should be looking for (internships, jobs) I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!!

I've heard that the job market is turrriable out there. The best resource for internships is your schools career counselling center.

Doostang.com is v. good. I found my current job and previous job on it.

NETWORK, NETWORK, NETWORK.

Also, I am in town this weekend, if you want to be my intern, grab me coffee and stuff while I play poker, that's cool too.

Yes really turriable.

If you can not find anything look into doing summer term at UNLV. Universities often have very lax registration requirements for summer classes. If they break their summer into two sessions, do one course each so it is not so difficult. You get some coursework in, get time in Vegas, then can network in the area if you are interested in working their after graduation.

Try to finish at Buffalo. It's hard to go back once you stop.

UNLV is a beautiful place even as a flat spot in the desert. It's a rough world though because often in Vegas people are trying to make something out of nothing. People can make a lot of cash fast but then are unable to cope when the well suddenly dries up. Plus, bad habits and poor self management frequently get in the way of success.

Here's a thought and I'm not saying it's even a valid opinion. It just came to mind. If you're getting your degree because you want to absorb all the knowledge thrown at you, while putting ideas together and thinking critically, and you want to test yourself as a college graduate, come to Vegas and put yourself to the test. If you're getting a college degree because someone told you you need it (to get a job, be taken seriously, etc), stay in NY. I think that's the easier route. It may be boring and leave you feeling unfulfilled, but you're much less likely to get hurt. Vegas can be a big disappointment. On the other hand Vegas will toughen you up and leave you with invaluable life skills.
