Looking for close to strip (3-5 miles) or less gated quiet (on safer side) apartment community.

2bd/2bath preferred.

Anyone have any ideas where it's not completely the ghetto?

"Close to the Strip" and "Safe, quiet" are mutually exclusive. Pick one.

I'm in one now and only noise I get is every Friday morning when the guy is running around with leaf blower.

Basically a nice place that's not a dive full of hookers and drug dealers and gets cops called into the community everyday

What's your price range? Are you leasing or buying? I moved into the Juhl Condos earlier this year. It takes up an entire block in the law district of downtown. You're 5-6 blocks walking to Fremont, 2 streets over from the strip, so you're a 5 minute or so drive to Encore/Wynn. The security here is great, it's the safest I've felt in Vegas in my 3 years here. The immediate area is right in the heart of the law district, so there's not a lot of danger element that you get a few blocks off the strip on the eastside. The views are great and there's a ton of different floor plans.

Inbox me for some contacts if you're serious about making a move. I used a great agency in town that really took care of me on my apt search and move.

I lived in the Mark 1 building on Desert Inn just west of Eastern for about a year-across the street is the hood, yes-but if your on the north side of the building your view is LVCC- under 5 minutes to Venetian and Wynn, and easy also to North Valet at B-units are nice-secure parking-might be worth a look

I live at The Villas at Green Valley. 7.5 miles to the strip, very nice and quiet. No gate, but it's not necessary.

Maybe also check out Peppertree on Sunset.

Peppertree on Sunset?
Only Peppertree that popped up on search is on 3rd St downtown

I stayed at the Meridian for about 3 months last year and thought it was awesome. It's very close to the strip (10 minute walk), has a really nice pool (with grills for your use) and other amenities, and is gated with 24/7 security. There was no noise ever.

The 24/7 liquor store next door has a good beer selection, too. Honestly if I had binked huge last year my plan was to buy the place we were renting.

Great thread. Much like the mechanic thread, this definitely adds great value to people first coming to Vegas to grind poker or coming just in general. Thanks for all of the info contributions from everyone.

Apartment buildings are pooping up like weeds here in vegas... probably one of the biggest growth segments in the real estate market. If you have transportation, 10 miles or so is no big deal and there are numerous brand new complexes from which to choose.

Get here first then look around before signing any long term lease

I think I am going to move out of Elysian at the District at the end of next month, have spent 18 months here, really enjoy the location, the safety, and love the loft apartment layout, but I am getting really the worst value. I am currently paying close to 2k a month, and I think I can find something close to as nice for a minimum of 500 less, I will keep everyone posted on my search.

Reading you post I thought I read "has a really nice pool (with girls for your use)." Where's my head? lol.

I'm already here, I need it within next 3 weeks. And 10 miles is far considering both jobs and sometimes a double shift stop by the house and a quick shower before second job.

Trying to weigh my options closer to the strip

(1) Those places are available but the HOA/monthly dues are through the roof!

or

(2) I heard Panorama has this feature but you end up paying for it one way or another.

How much is being gated worth?

I also lived at the Meridian for a while and thought it was awesome (but that was back years ago). The prices there now are actually less than when I lived there. Pools, tennis courts and they had a concierge that will send out your dry cleaning. The pool was also open 24/7 (at least when I was there).

The one big downside is that up Flamingo road is a firehouse, and the fire trucks use Flamingo to get to the strip every time some drunk idiot has an issue. My condo was right on Flamingo, so I could hear the fire trucks at all hours. But I would absolutely live there again, just so long as the unit wasn't facing Flamingo road.

Matt Moore also lived there during his AKAD adventures.

I didn't even know about the fire trucks! My condo was all the way in the back, though, facing the border with Holiday Inn.

They were trying to sell the condo for something like $150k and change... according to some real estate database my friend looked it up on, they'd paid $430k back in 2005! Insane, it's just a 1br/1ba too.

As for being gated ... I never in my life thought I'd want to live in a "gated community..." until I lived in Las Vegas. On that block at least, it's a requirement.

So, you wouldn't walk in the surrounding area outside the gates?

If I wanted to live in a modestly priced apartment in a safe (but not necessarily quiet), somewhat walkable neighborhood (I would like to be able to walk to the grocery and/or a few inexpensive restaurants..likely won't, but want the option to) that isn't necessarily near the Strip, where should I look?

That's something I look at. Doesn't really change anything you just have to look and see if you like the stores near you. In the case of the Meridian your so close to the strip not sure where the nearest grocery store is. The Meridian if I recall right has a guard neigherhood is ok just wouldn't be walking around at 3am by myself.

Several years ago I lived in a nice complex near Trop and S. Torrey pines. Looking at google maps it looks like they changed the name to Tower At Tropicana now.

It was nice then, gated, AC Racquetball court, nice gym, nice pools, etc.
And like 15 minutes to most anywhere on the strip.

There probably aren't many places safe to live that are walkable to stores and restaurants. You will need to drive. Plus the heat will discourage longer walks.

Yeah, walking through neighborhoods is back east or San Francisco.

The Breakers on Saraha and Hualapai is directly across from Sprout and just down the street for Downtown Summerlin is very safe and very walkable just gotta look.
