what are the other really great pawn shops here in vegas?

I have been in a few because I love looking at junk. all those that I have been in, compared to those in southern california, suck big time. where are the good ones?
I live a few blocks away and I don't think I have ever seen a line hundreds of people long. Dozens, yes. But there are definitely plenty of times to go when you do not have to wait.

The problem with the Pawn Stars store is not that it is a crappy pawn shop. It is that it is a crappy pawn shop with a long line. Its a matter of unrealistic expectations. I was really disappointed that there wasn't more cool stuff to see.

There were 2 olympic high jump medals, and it was fun to speculate on the degeneracy of an olympic champion who would pawn the tokens of his greatest achievement of a lifetime.

But overall the stuff in there was pretty lame. Although I havent been in yet, the store one block north looks cooler through the windows... it looks like a collection of vintage Vegas collectibles. I think its called Lost Vegas Antiques.

Anyone been in there?

The show seems pretty damn scripted to me too. I love it though and it will not take away from it one bit for me.

You can tell by the look on the old mans face that he never in a million years envisioned his pawn shop becoming what it is now. Its priceless to see.

Heh I dunno about that, the old man is obviously acting for the cameras to be the old grumpy stereotype. But then he drives home his fully restored classic car to his house made of gold and rolls around in hundreds of thousands of dollars!

My gf watches those HGTV shows, and I can't stand it.
Here is the script for every show:

Designer goes into home with rooms that are all completely painted some neutral off-white. "Oh, no! this will never do, we need some color to liven up the decor for buyers". Designer proceeds to paint some walls a bright blue green or something.

Very next episode - Designer goes into home with a room that has a wall of color that is a bright blue green or something. "Oh, no! Colors like this will turn off buyers". Designer proceeds to paint the whole house some neutral off-white.

Rinse and repeat 20 times a day.

When you say antique slots -- how old? I am interested in finding a Caille Eclipse (the forerunner of the "slot", featuring a roulette wheel) or similar type machine from the 1900s era.

I walked from the Flamingo to the Pawn Stars pawn shop (alot farther then I thought)

Some lady in the Wallgreens parking lot was shouting at me asking me if I had a gun as I walked by

Store was small, nobody from the show was there but I thought they had a few cool items, spent probably ten mins in there and walked around the store twice

Bought a herb grinder at the smoke shop a block back up the strip and smoked some chronic with the guy

Would go back but would drive

I have appeared in a main segment on the show. I don't know if I'm supposed to talk about it in detail, but I can confirm a lot of the material is scripted and/or recreated.

I hear ya... I have never seen the line this long before, but when I drove by it went around the building and down the block for some reason.
now that I have been here a couple weeks full time, I have found more than a couple nice consignment and second hand shops around town. I can't wait till I start going to some garage sales

No, because the production company that produces the show that I was on also produces numerous other reality shows and I got the lowdown on all of them.

But, whatever.....

You just go on believing that other "highly respected" reality shows are unscripted and completely real.

old news that reality tv isnt real but a funny story about pawnstars.
my buddy who lives in vegas is/was in a rock band and knows the 'guitar expert' guy. its obv scripted and they take guitars off the wall of the shop to 'sell' to the shop for TV purposes and he does his expert schpiel.
he then goes to trade shows in other cities and gets real jobs cos ppl think hes the sick guitar expert that hes not. he obv knows some stuff and idk what jobs hes getting but..

cool story bro i know.

In point of fact, we hadn't even put the house on the market yet. That happened shortly after the show was filmed.
LOL. Did you actually get the asking price that you said you got on the show?

Obviously its scripted. Its interesting that people tend to complain when things are scripted. That is what TV is. Everything is scripted in some way or another.

Just imagine what the show would be like if it wasn't scripted. Thats right, horrible! There would be far more complaints, and a lot less fanfare as well.

Well, yes and no.

It's a bit of a long story, but essentially, shortly after we put our house on the market once filming was completed, I became ill and spent a couple of months in hospitals. We took our house off the market during that period and because I needed several operations over the course of a year, we didn't put our house back on the market until a couple of years later. By that time, the housing prices had come down so we put our house back on the market at a lower price point. However, we almost immediately received five offers, all at or above our asking price.

So we did actually sell our house for significantly more than our asking price, albeit less than we would have sold it for two years earlier. Nevertheless, we were still able to use the proceeds to move to Las Vegas and pay cash for a very nice house in Spanish Trail.

Dude, I knew I wasn't the only one. I have now watched more real estate and fashion shows than any other form of TV including sports. Let's us pray.

Old. At least 40 years old back through the end of the 19th century. I'll mention the Caille Eclipse. If you have any other specifics, shoot me a PM.

Pawn Stars has been getting progressively more fake every season and episode.

If you look back at the 1st season it's not so bad and obvious, however after the show became a hit they decided to take it up a notch.

All the little "bits" they do with the family are painfully fake as they aren't good actors at all.

And yes alot of the outlandish items are pretty obviously just brought in for show (robosaraus!)

It was fun to say I actually went to the pawn shop. Was more a novelty then anything else. From what I hear the guys are not there much and there are way to many people checking it out and the place is pretty tiny. But if your bored its a good free way to waste time. You can see a lot of the items that were on the show there.

I went there, it really is a tourist trap now, bunch of people waiting in lines just looking at stuff they aren't going to buy, small in comparison to what I pictured from the show. Saw nobody from the show. They have a big display of pawn star shirts and stuff to sell to tourists as well.
