Extended stay by the strip on budget possible? (0/month or less) Extended stay by the strip on budget possible? (0/month or less)

I am thinking of going to Vegas for the entire next month (May 2013) to grind the cash games, and I was wondering if it is possible to find a place to stay that satisfies the following criteria:

1) Be as close to the strip as possible (no car available)

2) Be as cheap as possible (preferably no more than $500)

3) Be minimalistic but sufficient (bed, shower, fridge and WiFi)

If so, where can I find it?

If not, what should I expect to pay minimum?

Thank you in advance!

There was a sign out front of aztec casino (which is technically on the strip, i guess) that was offering weekly rooms for 130 a week.... thats probably as cheap as youre going to get in walking distance to the strip.

the clarion offers monthly rooms for 850.

Obligatory "the tunnels behind IP are free" comment.

The search function is free too.

If you find someplace for $500 or less close to the strip it's probably gonna be a ****hole.

Anything half way decent is going to be at least $800 a month. I've stayed at the Holiday Royale many times and would recommend it.

Thank you! HR looks nice...

But fwiw, it is still a tad fancier than what I need. I really wouldn't mind something of lower quality (as long as it has wifi and a fridge).

Do such minimalistic/cheap places exist or HR is the absolute bottom?

Sort of the minimal acceptable outcome, I would think, is to survive the month without some crackhead stabbing you for your bankroll. So I'd be cautious about anything cheaper than the HR.

Try timeshare rentals if you are looking for a place with wifi, fridge and a kitchen. A kitchen is nice to have. You'll save a ton of $ on food. Though I don't think you are going to get it for $500/mth.

There's a little dive-hole hotel across I-15 on Tropicana, its a truck stop also and full of hookers, http://www.roomstays.com/hotel/601722, Days Inn / Wild West.

So from the corner of Las Vegas Bld & Trop you'd go West about 1 mile across I-15. This is place is cheap, and prolly within walking distance to someone ambitious enough to walk in the desert heat.

as has been said, you are looking at >$800 and if you even find anything lower its not going to be a drastic price difference. even if you went away from the strip you wont find anything for the price you are looking for...trust me OP, i am planning on doing the exact same thing as you next month and was pretty much looking for the same thing you are...well i spent about a month surfing craigslist daily waiting for the right deal, and nothing...Im back at square one and staying at HR like i was thinking before i started my search...HR end thread.

PM me if you want to meet if you end up there.

I just called them and they said they offer no rooms. Regardless, I think the comment was about a sign/ad next to aztec inn not about aztec inn.

In any case, would you guys say that HR is reasonably close to the strip? I am asking because without a car, 1.5 miles doesn't feel that close to me. Plus - and correct me if I am wrong - the only available transportation is through Flamingo and not Harmon which sounds like a pain to me.

Does someone have any suggestions?

its pretty much as close as you can get OP. not to criticize, but you are asking for a whole lot in return when not putting much up. to begin with, you cant really find an apartment (thats not even furnished or utils paid) in LV or much anywhere else for <$500, even if you sign a year long lease. Im no real estate mogul but i do know location factors into prices...and its easy to assume something on/adjacent to LV blvd will have a higher asking price.

So pretty much HR is your best bet all around bud. You might try that clarion, but it's by the wynn so it might actually be farther than HR to the poker hotspots. Harmon is a good jumpoff point if you are walking, cuz you could decide left for aria/mgm OR right for Bellagio/Venetian/ AND Planet Hollywood will be the first casino you pass before you get to the LV Blvd/harmon intersection.

^ Thank you.

I understand that <$500 is almost impossible. I only asked mainly for three reasons:

a) I know that real estate in Vegas has been traditionally really cheap.

b) I absolutely need to maintain the costs as low as possible, because they effectively affect my winrate. So if they are too high they could potentially make the trip not worth it.

c) Maybe someone who travels frequently there, has figured some smart, effective or even unorthodox way to minimize expenses. You never know...

PS.: I got a quote from Clarion for roughly $2k/month...

The Strat is advertising 20% off rooms for the whole month of May thru "special offers" on their page. The basic room is $31 and change. 20% off would make it around $25 per night. This comes to $750 before taxes and fees. Seems like this $800 range is going to be the best you can find.

I stayed at the strat last year and was surprised at how decent it was. A little far out but at least there is poker downstairs and it generally consists of junkies and rednecks.

Thank you. Basic room is in fact ~$31 but during the weekends the price is more than double. Again, they gave me a quote of roughly $2k/month (after taxes) and that does not include wifi.

I do not think that living on the strip is a viable option. Instead, HR seems to be my best bet like everybody mentioned already...

LVH has a promo going on right now for poker players. $36/night + taxes which comes to $1200(no play requirements). Its 1.5miles from center strip but there is a monorail right next to the hotel. You could try splitting a double bed with someone for $600/mo if you dont mind sharing.

Stay in a Hostel in between the strip and downtown. You can stay in one for as low as like $12 a night.

This place is $11.51 a night. http://www.hostelworld.com/hosteldet...To=22+May+2013

Have fun.

resort fee bumps it up considerably... its 15 plus tax, which adds another 450 to the monthly cost.

I had read somewhere though that they will waive the Resort fee on 5+ night stays.

It bears pointing out for those that have never been to vegas though that the stratosphere is considered a strip hotel only as a matter of tradition. Its close to a mile from the strat to any other strip hotel.

Check craigslist for rooms for rent. You aren't getting a safe apartment all by yourself near the strip for under $500, but you might find someone with an extra room in their apartment or house for that.

Get to know the bus lines - there might be spots that are further from the strip but are on a 24 hour or close to that bus line. Also, Clear 4g works well in much of las vegas - get a modem for $50 then it's $35 or $50 per month for unlimited use, no contract.

I'm sure during the summer there must be tons of students sub letting their apartments. Atleast those rates might be negotiable...

I am sure too. Any good source to reach those students other than craigslist?

you might want to check out holiday royale. the place isn't luxurious but a friend stayed there a couple months without complaint and it's a short walk to the strip.
