Can you give us more details on the tournaments you played? (Location. Buy-in. Number of Players. etc). Winning 8 out of 10 is an extraordinary (borderline unbelievable) achievement!

Sure these huge splashy pots have big potential for variance, but you can walk away a big winner.

These are the only games I seek out in vegas. They're fun, the players usually arn't that good and there's always some laughs. If everyone at the table is quiet, drinking water and possibly wearing headphones I'm usually gone within an orbit. As such, I think the Venetian is the worst poker room in Vegas.

btw, I'm a very recreational player who only plays poker when in town for business.

I do not recall the exact time I was there, but I believe it was between 5pm to 7 pm, due to the fact that I wanted to pull the lever on the slot machine by the door and I think the shut it down by 6pm, since there was a line forming I waited and later on the lady was closing it down and I stayed for another hour after that.

there were 2 older gentlemen's, one with a cowboy hat an another with a full set of white hair, a black gentlemen with an accent, two young kids (early 20's), a fat loud mouth Texan that I am sure couldn't come up with anything better than a three word phrase in scrabble and a tall attractive female drinking colorful drinks .

there were at least four locals, because the dealer ( a heavy set short gentlemen) was telling these locals of a place in which they serve alligator meat.

I am sure the possibility of walking away a big winner is there, but they play very loose and faster than I can process things in my head, besides being the subject of their amusement ( for trying to write on my pad) felt ridiculed.

Overall it was a fun game and I'm glad you enjoy it, it just isn't for me right now.

As it stands right now my BR for cash games is $10K and my tournament BR is at $8K.
would this justify moving up to a higher limit ?
my house mates suggested to test the waters and try a few sessions.

As I ponder the goals of this endeavor, I could accumulate a few more eranings and accomplish the goal of being able to buy into a few WSOP events, but have only learned and experienced so little, I would feel shortchanged.

Emotionally this town has had an affect on me, everywhere you look everyone seems to have their significant other with them, walking, dinning and enjoying the fun of Vegas, and as I walk tru all these casinos and observe all their décor and opulence, brings to want the presence of my wife and family to truly appreciate such.

All that aside I need to learn how to get into Caesar's self park, freaking drivers and cabbies always steer me to the turn around area and I can't make a u turn when I exit such, oh well, off to play poker, I think I'll try the red rock

So just to recap you came to vegas with a 2k bankroll and jumped right into 10/20. You have won 8/10 tournaments in first place. You have been mugged and also colluded against. You are scared of the 1/1 at the Ling and find Aria easier. You have 5x your cash bankroll and 8x your tournie roll in what looks to be around 2 weeks. You are such a cool person 2 strangers took you in. Did I miss anything?

I think taking some small 2/5 shots wouldnt be so bad. Personally, i'd start with shorter buy-ins ~300 since this will help you avoid some tougher decisions and maybe start with a 2 short buy-in stop loss.

pretty much in a nut shell, if you condense it.
I only played 10/20 once
cash game BR was $2k
I did win 8 tournaments and a few bounties
I do find the linq 1/1 game intimidating
I have worked hard( I believe) to increase my bankroll
I was not mugged, but victim of an attempted mugging
It seems that there are much more collusion going around that I knew
and the two young men did not just take me in, I met them the day I played the 10/20 game and we conversed for quite a while afterwards.
these young men are well educated and intrigued in my field, we have kept in contact throughout, since my arrival in Vegas.

Along with frequent runs in at the casinos ( winn, aria, Bellagio)
Today makes my third week in vegas as for the attempted mugging, I was mostly exposed to such, the location of residence at the time was not in a good area.
as for being cool, I guess I have my children to thank for it, but I think sarcasm was implied in the statement.

I will not be posting any of my performances at the table and simply ask questions when warranted.
thanks to everyone for the directions provided.

Dr, if you find the Linq game tough & intimidating you are definitely not ready to take shots at 2/5. Stick with 1/2(3) there's no need to rush up stakes now you'll take a beating & it'll knock your confidence. I think it might even be a good idea to play the 1/1 a couple more times & I'm sure you'll see the kind of crap hands those guys are showing down with. Run well, good luck!

ok so I shared the tread with my wife, who was quickly to point out the fact that as other posts recommended, one should have 6 months living expenses saved, which I did and due to the fact that I was going to be receiving a monthly allotment, I took those six months and redistributed the funds among the poker bankrolls.
I have also distributed the excesses of the allotment onto same accounts

play later at the linq and don't use a pen and pad, just make mental note on players. see a lot of flops cheap, get paid when you make a hand and recognize you may get called down light.

Understand you are a Ph.D? You do not write like someone with that level of education. Something is very weird about this thread.

Good luck.

He PM me with update. Now has won 73/77, built cash game bankroll to 48,432. Now playing primary 5/10 due to being intimidated at the fellas competing at 1/1. His housemates have all quit poker and are his personal assistants providing food and laundry service, as well as security when moving winning from the casino ....blessed life

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I took my first trip to Vegas last month and had a blast. Nothing 'crazy' happened at all. Not even close.
