Hay I have been reading here for a while but never registered until now.

After reading here quiet a lot about accommodation in Vegas I am still somewhat clueless regarding my upcoming trip to Vegas.

I am flying in from Europe next week and planning on staying for exactly one month. I am looking to stay in the vicinity of the strip (20 min walk is fine by me). I thought looking for an apartment would save me some bucks compare to a hotel. Unfortunately I haven’t find something that is near and available for one month only.

Evan cross my mind staying at the Americas best value inn for avg of 34$ a night with no resort fee. It’s crapy but I don’t plan on staying in the room beside my 5 hours sleep.

Any concrete advice would be much appreciated

I'll bump this for you because I think some people on here can help you.

The one thing that jumped out at me from your post was the willingness to walk 20 minutes. You DO NOT want to do that. There are some really, really shady areas near The Strip. If you choose a place simply because it can be walked from, you may end up in a very undesirable neighborhood.

It might help if you post something about your budget. That would help narrow down some choices.

First time to vegas is a bit overwhelming. I'd suggest having something on the strip lined up for 2-3 days like the excalibur, flamingo, ballys, quad then you can go check the other places out. If you stay at the excalibur that the Americas Best Value and Motel 6 are a block or two to the east of there and going to the west over the freeway is the budget suites, days inn. IMO getting an apartment for just a month isn't worth it. I'd rather cough up $50 - $75 a night for a decent hotel. Also, you may want to check out downtown maybe stay there for a week or so rates are pretty cheap. Look at "the D", Fremont, Golden Gate, Four Queens, etc.

Thank you all for your comments.

This acutely my second time in Vegas. I admit I haven’t taken to account the bed neighborhood. How bad is it? Is there a real chance of getting mugged?

I don’t want to spent more than 1200$-1400$ on that month. I found really cheap deals for hotels like the exculibur, quad, rivera and such only 20$ a night in middle of the week. The problem is the resort fee that double that price and the high prices in the weekend.

Motel 6 and America's best value are basically across the street from MGM so it's an ok area and you don't have to walk to far and they are within 1/2 mile of strip so location is pretty hard to beat. There are several more hotels like red roof etc around the corner on koval too.

Listen to the other advice in this thread. Get yourself a hotel room for the first 2-3 nights and then book something while you are here. Its OK to form ideas from the web sites you can find, but you really shouldn't book those places until you can see them in person. Some of them are OK, some of them are terrible - it all depends on your preference and (to some degree) who else is staying there at the same time.

Looks interesting. What's their minimum lease? What are you going to do about furniture?

As I recall that was a nice clean place, BUT, it is across the street from Harbor Island and that is not a nice place.....

I would not walk to the strip from there late at night with anything I didn't want stolen on me. Don't forget too that you will need to buy sheets, pillows, towels, etc if you go with one of those places.

Would some or all of the resort fees be waived at checkout if one gambles enough? This could make staying on the Strip an easier decision.

Of course they could be waived. Everything is free in Vegas if you gamble enough. But the amounts you would need probably far exceed your budget (or a budget that makes sense) and you wouldn't count anything even remotely associated with poker hours towards those comps/fees.

Westgate Flamingo Bay Resort is behind Flamingo. I see weeks for about $350 on a popular auction site.

The Carriage House isn't the greatest but it's right next to Planet Hollywood. We got a week there for $300.

I know, lol Carriage House.

Tahiti is much nicer they have free shuttles to the strip ~ $250 a week.

Right next door to Harmoncrossing,, The Americana https://plus.google.com/109323658465...76/about?hl=en

Furnished apts starting at $600/ mo. Across the street from Hard Rock, 30 minute walk to Strip.

Kind of meh, but it's cheap.

Also Hostel Cat.

I've stayed at both in years past. They're ok but c'mon you're on vacation. I would recommend you spend a bit more and stay somewhere nicer and closer.

I'll second the advice that someone else gave about avoiding places near harbor island. Seriously, that place is terrible!

I know that it looks tempting on a map - you can walk to the strip and there's a major hotel (Hard Rock) nearby. How bad could it be?

But don't be fooled, that's not a good area of town at all and those places attract less-than-savory elements. I wouldn't stay at any of the places in that area.
