Sun, sea and sets!
Had a busy day finishing my packing ready for tuesdays flight, but the weekend is just starting for me poker wise as the GPS (genting poker series) hits sunny Westcliff on Sea for its £440 event. This is the 4th year playing this event, 1st time i managed 10th for 2.7k, and the following 2 years i made day 2 with a big stack and exited with a set vs 1 pair and aq v ak on q high flop both 10 or less places off the money.
Still looking for that trophey and 1st place score i have to play this event, infact i scheduled my flight on the tueday to insure i could play it, i first started playing at this venue 10 years ago, and learnt a lot from some solid players, so i have a soft spot for this now quiet low stakes card room.
We arrive late as usual and enter with a 25k stack at 200/400 25a on a 1 hour clock.
Starting stack
We win a few small pots before rivering the nut straight vs a tight abc woman with 108 on A9756
From there a slow grind until i get a real gift from a player i had played with the week before here (i went a few times for their added seat events in seak of value and to get familiar with the new faces and also buy a seat on the cheap)
He makes it 2700 utg+1 blinds 400/800 and we call in the BB with 88, with 80k effective (we cover)
Flop A 8 5 r, we check he bets 4000 and we call.
Turn is 7, we check and he bets 7.5k, hes played reasonably tight so hes never got a straight and i think its just GG if he has AA, but with his bet on turn im thinking he has AK AQ Ax hands so decide to raise to 17.5k to build the pot to get a bit river bet in.....but we dont need to worry about our river bet as he insta jams his 70k+ and we snap call. (He never snap jams AA?)
He tables 66 and we fade the 8 outs for a huge stack and a good table.
Short while later i made a solid live read with AQ on K9529 after i 3bet button and bet flop check turn and call 15k river bet (he had a serious shake on his arm and i made him sweat and made the call)
Last hand i get before getting moved was 22 in the bb blind on blind i flop a set on 2 7 10 hh and let him bet flop and turn and i raise the 7 on the river and he pays off with J10 :-)
No other real hands of note but we rally up in the last level to 202k which is good for 2nd in chips out of 71 remaining out of 225 entrys (£10k overlay FTW)
1pm restart so bedtime for me but more to come tomorrow hopefully
