The original thread started by Adam Monroe provides more photos and details of our rental details for the Poker House in Bangkok, except he has now moved back to the USA and I'm now in charge of the entire Baller House in Bangkok. There are also many updates:

Space is available June 1 and July1.

House
Here are some newer photo's of the Poker House setup now that we are moved in.

Here is the poker room with four desks and chairs setup for everyone.

Bedroom Photo 1

Bedroom Photo 2

I bought furniture for the outside pool area. More bean bags are on the way as we sold them out.

The image quality is bad, but this is the 40'' HDTV and wet bar upstairs.

Maid
Our maid p'Fey comes Monday, Wednesday, Friday now and is here for about 4-5 hours. She also goes to the store and buys groceries then cooks Thai food for everyone to share.

So far I've let her cook whatever and/or ordered very standard Thai dishes. Here is chicken curry with rice and tom yum kung (spicy prawn soup).

More prawns now with some green beans (kung thot).

She brought some pretty wild and sweet exotic fruit, but you can have whatever you like and she will make it next time she comes.

Internet

For poker players, Internet quality is a concern in Bangkok and occasionally cuts out. Most often for a few seconds or minutes. Last night for example True ADSL Internet (I think the most common, and arguably most stable) was out for hours. I called their support line and got a recorded message about they were sorry about service cut due to maintenance. Even if it only cuts out for a few seconds, on many sites that's enough to DC you out of a pot.

To help almost completely prevent any Internet cuts we now have a a dual Internet setup of which is currently a 2Mb True Internet ADSL line and a 2Mb TOT ADSL line that are both connected to a Linksys Dual WAN load balanced router.

This means that when both lines are connected we would currently get 4Mb connection. If one cuts, within 6 seconds the router stops balancing the bandwidth load and sends all traffic to the one connected WAN.

Obviously the key issue is not getting DC'd in pots and timing out in huge pots on non-DC tables. Seeing as this is a Poker House, and everyone has been a poker player, over the year this is likely to be worth thousands of dollars in EV for the house.

Also, TOT is upgrading our speed to 3Mb next week and True has said the line will most likely be upgradable in our area to 8Mb in a month or two.

Lastly, although it has not been an issue yet, this gives us 2 distinct IP addresses in case anyone happens to be on the same site/stakes and wants to sit at the same table. I think it goes w/o saying but a zero cheating policy will be strictly enforced (reported to site, posted and reported on 2p2, deposit taken, asked to leave immediately). I just want to make it clear this is not the point of the setup.

Poker
As a quick side note, I've enjoyed the company of every renter thus far. There has been more and more random strategy discussions, sharing of thoughts, concepts, videos, etc. with a lack of BBV stories/running bad complaints.

Speaking of which time to nap before johnbeans's 24th birthday tonight....

edit: this post got delayed, some photos from that night:

I'm in the black shirt.

Also, if you are interested, my facebook profile. If you need to friend me to see it just put Baller House in Bangkok or Poker House in Bangkok in the message.

35,000 Thai baht/mo (roughly $1,000usd).

More details about price and terms are available in the OP of the first thread.

All the details are the same except for what I've updated in this thread. To sum up the changes:
  • Adam Monroe has left and so now I rent out 3 of the bedrooms.
  • Maid now comes 3x a week and cooks for everyone.
  • Internet has changed to the dual WAN w/ balanced router setup.

Right now there it's me and three others, mostly playing 2/4nl - 5/10nl cash games. I'm from Portland, Oregon, one guy is from Las Vegas, one Finland, one Norway.

The photos posted give you an idea of who is around but I don't want to specifically name people. Not only that, but since it's month-to-month, the tenants change frequently. One of these guys is leaving June 1 and another July 1. In fact, since we only require 30 days notice, the house could be completely turned over by July 1.

Maid/furniture is. Some utilities might be, but electricity definitely isn't (split by number of people in house that month). Coxquinn can answer for sure.

Maid is included and utilities (electricity, Internet, Internet) are split. The big one is electricity witch is around 10,000 baht a month total. Each internet I believe costs around 1,500 baht a month.

What do you expect in one of the most frequently visited countries for sex tourist?

As always, if you are like ugly and disgusting, you have to pay for the sex. If you are like a cool foreign guy you probably pay a drink and a dinner and have a "girlfriend" there for the time being.

A hole in the wall Thai dinner: $1-2

Very nice upscale restaurant dinner w/ drinks: $20-30

Bottle of vodka/whiskey/gin at club: $20-30

Real Thai Massage: $6-8

Fake Thai Massage: $30-50

Bike ride to main street: 30 cents

SkyTrain to most of Bangkok: 50 cents - $2

Cab to the airport: $7

I think you can figure out what you'd spend there depending on your habits.

God thats cheap. I wish i had the time and money to go do this. Would be so sick.

Also i think Divine was asking how much in total all in would you spend on average a month over there. Im guessing around 2.5k would be probably get you a good month. Obviously the more money the better ldo

Very sick, if I wasn't so busy this summer I'd be in. If something similar happens next summer it's a strong possibility.

So to sum it up, you guys spend like $2k / month or slightly more, right?

It seriously just depends on what you want to do. The cost of living in Thailand can be extremely cheap if you want it to be. It's really 100% up to you on how expensive your trip is. If you want to go to really nice restaurants and eat kobe beef and foie gras every night. Yah, food is going to cost a lot. It's he same thing with how much you want to go out every week, and how extravagant you want to get when you do go out. I'm kind of tanked as I'm writing this, but I think I'm still pretty accurate in what I'm saying. I go out maybe 2'xs a week and go to a nice restaurant a few times a week and I've spent maybe $2k not including rent this month.

I want to elaborate on this thread just to give anyone looking to move there, an Idea of what they are getting into. THAILAND IS AWESOME. I was in the Navy on a Submarine and we pulled into Phuket, Thailand, which is in the South, but traveled to Pattyia Beach near the capital. Anyway, I spent a few weeks there and I can tell you, I have never had a better time in my life. I seriously could not spend more than 500 a week, because I was already living like a king. Seriously a sick life over there. Anything u want.

If you need more info, pm me. Remember, Sick Life.

Love the house, love the internet connection, quick question: How long have you had the dual internet connection? If your playing poker and one of the connections fail, does the poker client still have to reconnect (like if you quickly unplug and put back the lan cable) or is it seamless and you can't even tell one of the lines have failed?

I think if you have general questions about cost of living, Thai ladies, etc. you should post them in the HUGE thread in the Travel forum and you will get more responses, or go read the thread and you can make more probing questions as opposed to generalities.

As far as this thread goes try to stay on topic people Good luck finding people to fill your apartment.

Unfortunately, coxquinn has been having some internet trouble at the WSOP, so if he is taking a bit long to respond to your PM, I apologize. If you still haven't heard back from him in a day or two, feel free to PM me.

I'm finally back online here in Vegas. Sorry everyone who PMed me for the delays, I'm usually always online and respond very quickly.

As of now there is still space open immediately and July 1. However keep in mind it's 100% first-deposit-first-serve. There has been a lot of interest that I'm finally getting around to responding to. I'll post if any spaces fill.
