Do you need the 6 months and permission to start a thread if you're looking for something to buy? Or is it just if you're posting something you want to sell?

Yes; there's a link in the sticky.

I think we should a new feature to this forum. Before you respond to a post you should have to check a box that says I have actually read the post that I am replying to and to the best of my knowledge I am a giving a correct response. That way idiots like me dont give the wrong response when we thought we read something different than we actually did.

I interpreted the question the same way you did... ie "Do you need 6 mos + marketplace approval to respond to an ad in a thread"

Cliffs Notes:

Yes - you have to be Marketplace approved to open a new thread.

No - you don't have to be Marketplace approved to post in an existing thread.

"WTB PSP"

But you may as well just wait until somone puts one up rather than start a thread anyway.

unfortunately no, you have to be marketplace approved to start threads or solicit that kind of thing. Sorry.

I was kinda wondering about this too. How exactly does an escrow work, and what is the purpose of one?

Apologies in advance for asking something that is probably so basic that I should undoubtedly already know anyway.

Escrow is two parties doing business through a trusted middleman. Usually as it is here, the escrow holds the money while the item ships. Once the buyer gets the delivery, the money held in escrow is released to the seller.

When's the last time an escrow has been successfully recruited and used on Marketplace, anyways? I don't recall ever seeing someone successfully recruit a reputable user willing to act as an escrow here.

I had been looking at one of the bigger gift cards and for my piece of mind and that of the seller I would prefer to do escrow but your right in all my searching I haven't seen any on here

The idea is that you or the other party already know someone reputable that can help you, as opposed to recruiting someone. I set up an escrow with another mod when I wanted to purchase something from a newer poster, to put the guy's mind at ease and protect myself.

Of course, two relative unknowns who don't know anyone aren't getting an escrow, but that comes with the territory. In that case you might have to bite the bullet and use paypal as a middleman or something like that, if you're looking to do a bigger deal. But doing escrows for random unknowns is pretty dumb the way things are, nothing but downside.

It doesn't matter what it is, there's still a 6 month membership requirement.
