The Red Spade $55 will start next week. Its a 3000 starting stack with 12 min blinds and a very very big field filled with all types of players. I am looking for some advice on how to approach this kind of field. Can anyone please help and share their strategy with me. Perhaps some of you have made a deep run in it before.

Any help would be appreciated. TY & G

Like any MTT you focus on exploiting your opponents at YOUR table first. Don't get distracted by the seemingly insurmountable player field. The goal is to survive, not acquire all the chips. Surviving means 2.1X-5.5X BB raises preflop in late position with a wide range against players that typically give up their blinds easier/are easy to read and exploit. You get in dirt cheap in the beginning, get attached to no hand unless it's AA preflop. You wait for your spot like a predator and pounce like your life depends on it when you find it. Winning seemingly small (15% of your stack) hands preflop with no contest is perfectly fine as there are plenty of fish waiting to get a cheap price on their small pairs and suited connectors and crack your nuts.

Pot control is key so plan in advance and know what you're going to do when different players show strength or weaknesses, know their stats, and know if they will fold their second best hands or if they see a lot of showdowns.

TLDR: basically all online MTTs are the same; a varied mix of fish, competent, and skilled winning players surrounding you. You try to acquire a monster stack (some risk a lot to do this, some play nitty but will commit with monster hands). If you fail to get lucky or dominate your table, then begin survival mode and pick your steal spots carefully, methodically and logically. You'll find the more focus you put into a single MTT, the more you get out of it in experience and confidence.

Don't forget to take notes and colour code players!

I have learned a lot from watching my cousin play poker. As a two time WSOP champion he has conquered many a player and always did so methodically and confidently. No I'm not half as good, but I hope to be soon!
