Mental Game Coach Mental Game Coach

I'm looking for a mental game coach. I'm always impatient when playing, I can't handle the stress like I use to. Very negative with my approach and always thinking the opposite of things. I also believe that I almost had a gambling addiction at one point in my life. I can't play like I use too, and I would like to fix this before playing again. Another small detail is, my day time job is a day trader and I trade the s&p 500 e-mini's, if that matters.

Do you have the same issue trading the e-minis? If not why do you think that is? Poker and trading require very similar skills so if you are capable of beating the market at trading you should be able to win at poker too.

The same goes for mental game in both. Imo they are very similar (loosening up because of impatience is very similar to overtrading due to impatience for example)

Yes it's true that they have similarities, but it's not my money that I trade with. I created a deal with my parents since I still live with them and I only earn a commsion base on my monthly performance. I think with them structuring me like this, I have a different mental approach with trading then poker. Also I rarely have a losing week with trading anyway, compare to poker. I also believe that with the stress that I endure with poker before, I never solved it and only bottled it up allowing me to eat me up every time I play poker.

Yes that is a big difference. I personally dont really believe anyone (except maybe a trained psychologist or psychiatrist) but yourself can help your mental game issues.

Getting experienced in losing (I just mean you will grow thicker skin in time, not that you should lose on purpose :P) will definitely help. Also having a better understanding of variance (humans are really bad at understanding variance) might help you. Play around with some scenarios on pokerdope.com and you will be surprised at what is possible (both on upswings and downswings), putting things in perspective.
