I am playing at rockingham park in NH or foxwoods once a week just tourneys. I seem to be running bad lately with kk running into aa or aa losing to a set etc. I was a winning player for 2014 +$3000. I feel like I have a good grasp on how to play the tight aggressive strategy but feel as if I a not making enough deep runs. Any advice thoughts ??

I use to play at the rock for fun for a bit. The fields are extremely weak and you should be able to crush for a 40% roi+ long term as long as you don't chop. The table and people tend to play extremely badly and loose so you should splash around early tournament with them with big potential hands (like suited connectors). Its hard to get a good sample size in live anyways.

What are your results in those games? Do you keep track? If you only play once a week, you don't have any sample size to conclude anything about your game. A winning player can easily go 20+ streaks without making money. For you that'd be 20 weeks of losing money.

Yes 29 tourneys I've won 4 times chopping each time .........
2-3 times I've finished in the money breaking even or a small cash profit.
I am currently on a 7-8 tourney losing streak and a bit discouraged. I've called off my stack with KK < AA. Or have aa lose to a set etc. should I just play tighter against these softer players and try to run deeper? I tend to get aggressive when I have a decent hand.

7-8 tournies is nothing. Like I said, you can easily go 20+ even if you're the best player int the world.

@ rockingham, my longest non cash streak was 9 tournies. After that, I took one down and then went 4 more no cash.

I use to grind 180 man sit and goes on pokerstars where top 18 paid. My longest non cash streak in those were 44 in a row. I've played about 7000 of them online.

So yea, just realize that you haven't even begun to get hit by the rear end of variance and the worst is yet to come if you plan on playing poker for a while.

Worst thing you can do is change a winning strategy just b/c you didn't cash in a few tournaments for a while.

Your currently ROI over a very insignificant sample size is 56%. This is still on the higher end given the smaller field sizes and the 20% rake they usually take.

No real advice here, just from the sound of your post, I get the feeling that you don't really have the experience and volume to understand the nature of variance in poker (especially if you haven't played online) and I'm just here to say brace yourself.

Thanks zefa. I played a little online before Black Friday .....started live last year. Just trying to improve and make good decisions every time I play. There isn't a lot of 3betting or 4 betting there. A lot of straightforward fishy type play . I came to the forum mostly for some therapy after losing a few
